Tronåsen is a road which runs from the borders between Rogaland and Vest-Agder. It was built as part of the Western Highway and finished in 1844. Tronåsen was the most difficult stretch of the west coast highway and was built in those days mainly for horse transport.
Tronåsen in its time, was dreaded by all motorists. When T-Fords and contemporary buses used the road, passengers were usually visibly shaken. A recurring question was whether the brakes would hold during the steep climbs and descents.
Local associations and veteran car clubs in Rogaland and Vest-Agder organizes veteran racing events here. Along this stretch or road there are several bridges from the 1840s, picnic areas and information boards. This road is usually open from 1 May to 1 September.
