This is a great video, esp because this is a female rabbit spay. Really neat stitching, and can't wait to get my bunny spayed at 6mths-1yr old..

Great video, but I find most people forget to explain where the approach is..... hard to tell that you are too far cranial if we don't know where the incision is, with the animal being draped, it is even more difficult to see where your abdominal approach is. Most rabbit spay videos forget this part, would it be possible to explain where best to make your incision/approach?

I think so, too. In the end, the younger the rabbit, the further caudal you make the incisition, between the umbilical scar snd the pelvis. Think in the middle of that with an older rabbit, and slightly more caudal with young rabbits.

So what kind of suture did you use? Braided? All you said was what not to use...

This is great! Is there a list or table somewhere of the IV doses for the sedation? Thank you!

Hi Sarah, thanks for the feedback! I'm afraid I don't like to post non-licensed doses on an open forum, but if you let me know your email address I can send them over :-)

Hiya, don't have a rabbit but watched a video that was talking about spaying rabbits so got curious as I been looking into the research on spay/neuter in dogs and the notable increase in disease/anxiety that is being found cross species. Has there been long term studies on overall health and well being/anxiety/depression, and disease prevalence in rabbit, intact vs gonadectomy ? The only studied I found on overall lifespan data did not break the data down of intact vs gandectomy. I did find one study that found increase in Tyrosine Hydroxylase, which is to my understanding what they think is causing some of the issues in health with dogs. The video I was watched mentioned some deadly issues in rabbits are influenced by increased anxiety, which got me concerned -- as from what I been reading, the realization that gonadectomy can increase the rates of non-reproductive disease (and behaviour issues) is relatively new. Or is this like with cats, the hormone behaviour may cause more stress then the hormone deprivation does, and the reproductive issues are likely more then the hormone deprivation issues?
