That piece of double-sided tape on the plastic backplate isn't so it doesn't make contact to the metal plate, it's so you can more easily install the cooler in a system that's already in a case (where you can't just rest the motherboard on a table).

I notice the black V5 cooler in all these videos have just a touch of gloss. I mean the cooler looks matte black with shiny bare metal fan clips but the one I received is flat black with flat black clips. I'm not complaining lol the flat black cooler works better than painted one and the mounting lines up no problem. I even installed this cooler with MB in the case. I believe those having alignment issues really need make sure they don't accidently move one of the screws while installing (AM4/AM3+).

If your using the stock wraith cooler, this cooler completely wipes the floor. It dropped me 15-30c depending on the applications, using cpu burner 12 thread at 4.5ghz all core with the wraith I would easily run over 100c which was un-acceptable, using the v5 i never go over 80c using fur mark 12 thread still at 4.5 ghz all core. Playing games I used to run 70c easily now I run between 50-60c depending on room temp, im super happy with this cooler it looks great performance is great for the money 100% would recommend 👌 Edit: I use the ryzen 5 5600x which imo does get decently hot.

I picked up one of these after Jay's video, but I'm fairly certain I got a defective unit. The AMD brackets DO NOT align with the backplate holes at all, so I can't actually mount it. The screws wind up being off by a LOT, once the bracket is attached to the HS. I confirmed by putting the brackets on by themselves and they do line up, but the screw holes where they attach to the HS are offset just enough that no matter how they are oriented it will not mount properly. Not going to bother trying it on an Intel system as the ones I have all have better coolers on them already. Eating the cost and not going to bother with brands I've never heard of before. Not Jays fault, but been doing this too long to mess around with shoddy QC like that. I picked up the Noctua and Be Quiet! units you reviewed and they not only fit, but they do a very nice job of cooling.
@Viking8888
3 жыл бұрын
I never assume a person has or has not tried something, so I will just ask if you made sure the AMD brackets were in the correct orientation. The shape of those brackets, where they curve at the ends, need to be facing towards the inside of the cooler and then the screws themselves move to align to whatever socket you have. (ex. FM2, AM4). I had issues at first getting the cooler lined up on two systems, but in the end the adjustments I made to the screws made them fall into place. Hope this helps. Take care.
@PsychoStreak
3 жыл бұрын
@@Viking8888 Yeah, that was the first thing I checked. None of the combinations work with the brackets attached to the cooler. Take the brackets off the cooler and they attach to the backplate just fine. This was with several AM4 boards and backplates. When looking at the base of the HS with the brackets on the left and right, one side is higher by maybe a millimeter, possibly two. It is just enough that no matter which slot the screw is in on the bracket all 4 screws never line up with the holes on the backplate.
