21:07 The guy who taught me casting had us stack metal on the lid to heat up prior to adding to the crucible, to drive out any moisture, and to keep it from cooling off any metal already in the pot. Thanks for producing this.

Yes that's a good idea mate my copper was dry but I will do that in future to speed up the melting. Cheers.

Great video as ever Loz - thanks for that mate! I'd love to see how the little furnace would work as a heat treat forge!

@LozHarrop Great vid How did copper pipe help with air flow I've got a new furnace with double burner like yours And was thinking of adding a little pipe cover to slide over the intake valves

I have that same furnace! Can't beat it for the price. I made copper ingots out of a bunch of scrap copper wire fragments. Haven't progressed beyond that, but someday... Your video reminds me, it's time to clean and service my shop rocket stove made using your design.

When I have used Satanite, it cracks and chips off. Perhaps it is because I keep the forge outside under a tin roof and it gets damp? I love your crucible tongs- brilliant. I like to watch Windy Hill Foundry on KZitem. best wishes Frank

Thanks frank, will check windy hill out, yes satanite does crack and craze on a blanket its more about containing the fibres really, you can buy blanket Rigidiser which if applied before the satanite helps to prevent the flaking . Cheers,

I found an instant read temperature gun with a digital display cheap. They're available in different ranges suitable for low and high temperatures. The probes are good, but the instantaneous ability is handy as a fast checking method. I've been waiting for the Vevor furnaces like yours to go on sale for a while. 200 dollars Canadian is about as low as I've seen. A heat treat use video would be great!
