I wish I was doing these ona table, rather than in a 2’ by 4’ cabinet reaching down into a less than square foot hole to terminate on 500s where the phase terminals are over a foot from the ground terminal

Sameway do we, proceed at motor end. And same way for HT VFD, at both motor and VFD sides. Kindly acknowledge. Thanks

Thanks for the explanation. That's for low voltage VFD cable, correct? What do you do with the excess of the three grounding bare cable? Just cut it? or should you get them connected to the ground terminal on the cabinet chassis? Best regards.

100% waste of money in 99.8% of installations using shielded or special wire for drives. At the large hospital research center that I retired from the over 500 VFD'S only had had normal THHN/ THWN wire and a copper ground wire inside metal conduit { EMT & short piece of greenfield or liquid tight }. Most motors were plain Jane NEMA frame types some over 35 years old. Had very few motors burn out a year. Motors were 2 to 1,750 HP. In newest building every motor 60 HP & higher were on 18 pulse drives except for the 250 HP Fire Pump that was on a soft starter.

One of my first expierinces 15 or 20 years ago in wiring two large pumps at a cooling tower controlled by VFDs without any shielded cables resulted in bearing damage to both which requied replacements in less than a year. Chokes were installed at the drives which took care of the issue, but since then I go with shielding per the manufacturer.

A real electrician would NEVER use scissors to ever cut electrical tape.
