Listen my friend you just made an outstanding procedural video on how to troubleshoot the electrical, mechanical, and diagnostic of the VGT. You were very detailed in every explanation and the video where we can see the physical movements were outstanding. You verbal explaining of the parts and process is spot on. Dont be concerned with all these Couch Potato's criticizing your effects here. I have a Paccar MX-13 EPA 17 my VGT Actuator went bad last week 12-19-23 and your Video I watch is exactly my problem. My JPro Code for my issue is EGR Malfunction detected fault code P1496. Variable Geometry Turbocharge VGT Actuator Can Communications error U1159. I'm wanting a new VGT I ordered. Great Video f....k everyone criticizing you my friend outstanding work to show us all the Procedures and how to. FYI guys watching video what size Alan Key Socket he used he says it is 3/16th Socket.

Very well explained on the installation procedure of a vgt. I was trying to explain this to a co worker who didnt know that you had to align the flap on the turbo to the mounting hole so when he did his first calibration and installation it came back as a failed actuator. When i aligned it for him the actuator and the turbo worked fine and hasn't had any issues. I think I'll show him your video as a guide.

@@alreyindustries I’m limited to 1650 rpm’s and 45ish mph. And have 4 vgt codes and and 2 engine torque debate codes…hopefully the new actuator will solve my issue

No load test or checking the pins at the ECM? Man that was a risk too those bolts don’t always come out that easy haha

If I remove the actuator just to see if it’s working properly. And it won’t rid fine, do I still have to calibrate it assuming I put it back just as it was when I took it off

In order to see if its working properly you have to move the gear in the actuator and your should check the turbo lever as well. So you have to move them both and I don’t think you’ll be able to get them back exactly where you took them off at. You could try it but I don’t want to recommend it.

Would it be possible for me to drain the coolant and replace the VGT and then replace coolant and drive it somewhere and have them program it? Or does it have to be programmed before it’s installed?

Im trying to do the Hysteresis Test. But my coolant level while idling is taking forever to get to 158F. Is there a way to speed this process up to test the actuator?

So i switched out 2 new turbo actuator and still wont so calibration so I installed it like that and worked for a day and now again giving me code

Yea, unless you are a pretty educated and handy diyer. Even so, you would need the Cummins software as well. I made this video more for the technician who is learning and has the resources but just needs a little guidance rather than for the diyer.

@Alrey Industries Top Tech Diesel I could handle the repair just fine but I lack the software to calibrate it. I'm not a "trained" mechanic and yet I found ur instructors to be extremely easy to follow. I have 3 and a half years of aircraft maintenance school under my belt, only needed about another year to get my A&P license. Appreciate the video, and I appreciate the reply.
