Vibrato vs. Straight Tone
Vibrate at all costs to avoid the dreaded straight tone? Is this the way it has to be?
But what if your 🎵good vibrations🎵 are getting in the way of pitch stability, of registrational transitions, and of clarity in moving notes (coloratura)? Then, is your vibrato really being produced correctly?
I want us to look at the phenomenon of "double vibrato" which is where your laryngeal cartilages are de-stabilized and moving sympathetically with the natural vibration of the vocal folds. This action will create a heavy sounding vibrato and will limit clarity and ease in the voice.
Check out this video for tips to regulate this tendency and keep your vibrato "tuned-up"!
