Kinda surprising that the X'Eye used the MEGA-CD tune instead of the SEGA-CD tune, but you gotta keep it uniformed with JVC I guess
@TheRedCap
Жыл бұрын
My best guess is the licensing trouble around the Sega-CD. SEGA of Japan and SEGA of America weren't on the best terms after the Sonic devs moved to the USA to make Sonic 2, so in retaliation they didn't allow SOA to release the Mega-CD. So a bunch of really smart people reverse-engineered the Mega-CD, and both to skirt trademark laws and to make the brand line up more (not called Mega Drive in NA), they renamed it to the Sega-CD. And for the same reason Sonic CD had a different soundtrack, the BIOS menu on the Sega-CD had a different track too. My best guess as to why the X'Eye was allowed to keep the original track is because the BIOS was licensed to JVC by SEGA of Japan for distribution in North America, thus allowing them to use the aforementioned track.
@superstar64
5 ай бұрын
@@TheRedCap If I had to guess, it would be a lot more simple than that. My theory is that the X'Eye was practically just a conversion of the Wondermega model 2 with a few tweaks, so all they did for the BIOS was change the branding and literally nothing else. Shame JVC never converted another Sega product for America, but what are you going to do?

Yes, there is a difference. The story goes that the designers for the Wondermega thought the Japanese BIOS music was not "impressive" enough to show off the console's abilities, so they added a track... and once it was brought stateside, the X'Eye designers were lazy, said "fuck it," changed the W to an X, and called it a day.

@@theobserver4214 Sort of. The X'Eye will always default to the BIOS if no game cartridge is inserted. The console will check the disc if there is one inserted, and if there is, it will then load the main menu screen where you can manage the memory, play music tracks, or launch the CD game you have inserted. Speaking from personal experience, since I actually have one of these things.
