Big Jim. He went at matfield, he went at bakkies and he went at Etzebeth. Might not have won, but boy did he pitch up.

I'm glad you brought up the political situation. Many like to gloss over it's a reality, maybe not player for player but usually affects the larger team fringe selection. And ironically that's how you have so much depth. The best players werent always picked in place of 'developing' players of colour. Ironically there were many players at one time ahead of Siya Kolisi. He is a success story. Many others like Am and Mapimpi. Grant. Etc etc. That you actually having parity between the best players and the 3rd best. The only blight is maybe Dweba and Marvin Orrie. How Dweba got a starting game against the All Blacks I'll never know. But there you go. That's how you build depth.

Coaches and management have loads of info and stats that would justify Dwebas inclusion. Out-of the player pool Dweba is a logical selection. Grobbelar last year had an argument but this year he wasn't as good. Orrie has a different skill set to the other Locks.

@@terryg1829 well for years you got a guy like akker van der merwe off the springbok radar, then Deon Fourie is in the mix all of the sudden but I remember in his younger prime when he was playing really well for the stormers, one of the hookers in the squad was chilliboy ralapele. It plays a very subtle role in the makeup of the squad, but I can not really fault the current squad. Almost all of them are there on merit, while I wonder a bit about Orie and Dweba. In allistair coetzees era you got guys like rudy paige, oupa mohoje playing in the squad for numerous games while we had better players to choose from, but Rassie took this whole thing and made it a success.

@@cjconradie7827 I agree Alistair created a problem by selecting the wrong people. Currently the issue is not colour but status. Elite school kids tend to get lions share of exposure and we miss so much talent at schools without the proper funding. Other hopefuls have to try make it in a sub par club systems or the varsity cup. Would love for WP.and other unions to have open tryouts once a year. For age group and senior.

@@cjconradie7827maybe because you have more players of any shade coming through. Integration through offspring will ultimately make us colourblind. But for me, I totally agree with what you are saying. We’ve come a long way since Errol Tobias . They had to hand the ball to him because he couldn’t catch or tackle but man could he run. A one trick pony

I must clarify that I had an eye on Dweba when he was still at the Cheetahs before going overseas.. He was fire as a mobile ball carrying hooker. Sort of like a Craig Burden. But his lineout throwing and basics after all the chances this year soured me. There's atleast 2 or 3 hookers Akker Van Der Mervwe comes to mind that have been amazing so long and for sure would've made more impact with less chances but never get them.
