I can remember buying these army surplus stores for £7 each! Back in the early 90s. There were several makers, Victorinox, Adler ,ccm and many more all contracted to supply the German army! They are now fetching silly money if you have a nice one !

I picked up a few of these around 10 years ago. I remember the saw blade closing on my thumb while I was 15ft up a ladder trying to use the screwdriver 😂 it still gets the odd bit of use at work.

About a month ago I stupidly closed the saw on my Vic Ranger on the side of my big sausage index finger. Cleaned it with alcohol. Damn thing itched for 3 days. That saw is no joke. Boy does it SNAP. IMHO that saw should lock

Thanks! I have owned one of these for ages and you have reminded and inspired me to give it a full service!! It's a great knife......it's right on the absolute legal limit for edc in the UK, so I don't risk it. But it stays on a long lanyard attached to my shooting kit, so fine in the woods! Simple and very useful design. I have used the saw very effectively on several occasions to prep twig fuel for my small wood stove that accompanies me on my trips. Likewise, if used very carefully, the blade will batten down very small sticks to feed the tiny stove while I brew up. You can see why it would have made a perfectly effective and versatile pocket knife for soldiers.

That is stunning quality. To be able to snap these old scales without any damage done is really impressive. Think the cap lifter also are intended to work as a can opener, thus the (missing) guard over the saw :) Brilliant find 👍

Years ago- early 1980s, my parents bought me a Victorinox Safari from Brussels, I sold it and regretted it ever since, I was in Bombay and absolutely skint, but anyway, years later I discovered this and managed to get two of them, one an actual Victorinox and one, I can’t remember the make, possibly AMC or something similar, the first one, I had to reprofile the blade as it was damaged, happily, the Victorinox was mint.😁

have 2, carried one for decades. pull one out to use in the G2 1 MEF Fwd, SA. Col saw it, asked to see it. opend the blade to check makers mark. smilled a little and pulled out his. real ones are hard to find. once you pop off the scales, they will never be tight again. but still good work. always carried this one, Leatherman Demo tool and Randall 14, my Sig 226 (lucky I never got caught. GOs order no POWs, but they had theirs) on my rigger belt. Go a lot of use. NEVER go cheap on life suport gear. borrow money if you must..

The GAK I managed to find on Etsy … there is someone who sells original Victorinox and Wenger knives. I was in German last year and passed over a GAK that was cheap as chips for a later GAK … but wish I’d bought both at the time. They were cheap (< €20) and so I was stupid. 🤣 The MFH copy is okay … very much identical … but Victorinox is Victorinox … and is the daddy. The saw guard is near as dammit identical to the one on my Mauser so sacrificed the MFH.

Really like the108’s 👍 I would be interested in you doing a video on your sonic cleaner, I don’t know anything about them. When I get a new used SAK I usually soak it in warm soapy water and then go after it with a toothbrush. I have never seen anyone remove the nylon scales off a 108mm before, I don’t believe you can get replacement scales for them. If you get a GAK 2 it comes with a file/match strike on the saw, making it the most feature filled tool on a SAK. Did you notice the teeth on the saw are directional ?
