Hey Tito, I juist started the old projection lens "rehousing" and I'm filming every part of it! I'm now building the support system with 15mm rods I bought from a random store and soon I will be starting doing the testing!

Hey Tito, from my research on faking/budget anamorphic so far I've come to find that you are easily the most knowledgeable authority. So I figure you'd be the one to ask about faking anamorphic on wide lenses. Seeing this mod sparked me to try doing a similar mod (placing a filter on the back of the lens) on my Sigma 16mm 1.4 (24mm equiv on Sony E). However, I can never seem to get it to work. There is immense vignetting if not properly cut and the bokeh shape refuses to change regardless. All similar DIY mods recommend atleast near-telephoto lenses, but I find that having such a tight shot defeats the wide fov/shallow dof effect real anamorphic has. I'm stumped on what to do. I believe the sigma 18-35 replicates this well as it's wide and fast, but I can't replicate the mod on my fast wide prime. Any suggestions? Thanks regardless you are making great informative content.

Doesn’t look anamorphic to me ... 🤷🏻♂️

Tito Ferradans Hi. Too my eye the compressed perspective and vertical distortion of lines as they approach corners of frame and character of parralax effect of anamorphic glass is a world all of its own. It is something that can not be simply matched by decorating the bokeh and lens flare on a spherical lens. Because even without flares and at a close aperture anamorphic still feels very different than spherical. Please see a movie like original Conan The Barbarian, and you will see that much of the movie is shot around t/5.6 and up and the flaring is very controlled. Yet anamorphic feel is there. So when you say this looks anamorphic i don’t see anamorphic character at all. Second the sigma is in my opinion an overly sharp, high contrast lens with poor image fidelity and not flattering for narrative work. It is prized by many amateur photographers for its sharpness and speed. But tonal rendition is crap. the addition of horizontal streaks and oval bokeh doesn’t add a thing to the already bland over produced character of the glass nor does it make it any better for narrative or artistic working.

Tito Ferradans the price point is world appart. $45 Vs $1000+ for bad anamorphic lenses... The sigma is a great lens, you can always pair it with a promist or when shooting with a camera like blackmagic that has no sharpening, I don’t think the look is overly sharp really.

Hi, Tito. Would such CineMorph Mod method work on Sigma 50-100 f1.8 ART? What could be the results and is it worth a try? The purpose would be to match 18-35 lens with Cinemorph and 50-100 lens. Thank you.

Unfortunately, it seems they don't have cinemorph for the 50-100, and the filter size is 82mm

IM pretty sure this will also work with the sigma 17-50 f/2.8 since it has the same setup of screws on the back of it

I actually recently got this for my sigma 17-50mm and I can confirm that it works pretty well, the bokeh doesn't turn out as a complete oval though yet it still looks nice

The line going through bokeh isn't a problem unless you're focusing on something close/macro. At least on my RED. If you're using a speed booster, that probably changes how it behaves.

I did some more testing, and you're right about the line showing up all the time in the bokeh. Even if you aren't shooting macro, it's still there, albeit really faint and hardly noticeable. Definitely something to keep in mind when working with the filter. I'm really starting to love the lens and filter combo at 35mm, btw.

Awesomeness Tito!!!!!! Question? While using the speed booster shouldn't you regain that 1 stop of light loss from the Anamorph adapter? Thanks!!!!!

Hi Tito! Quick question, I have purchased the filter and intend to use it on my sigma 24mm 1.4 art (full frame ef) on my blackmagic ursa ef mount. They seem to think it should work fine, any thoughts?? Thanks so much, love what you do!!✌️✌️✌️

oh so not a speedbooster adapter just one that allows for auto focus control with canon and sigma crop sensor and full frame ef mount lenses on sony aps-c and full frame camera bodies? How is the autofocus with that adapter in both video and stills? Is there a speedbooster/focal reducer adapter option for canon ef to sony e-mount you know of that adds a stop of light and widens the focal length whilst retaining auto focus still you know of? Is that what the mark V does or other cheaper brand you know of? Thanks again

This seems like a huge waste of time and risk of damaging gear. I see no benefit at all using this mod. Either get the real thing or use what you’ve got. Story is what matters at the end of the day.

Tito Ferradans My point is, based on the footage in this video, it’s not worth it. Just to change the bokeh? That’s just a part of the anamorphic look. Still far from being anything true anamorphic. But, of course, to each their own. It’s clearly not for me.
