Sassoon became a member of the 43 Group, a Jewish veterans' militia organisation that broke up Fascist meetings in East London after the end of the war. In 1948 he joined the Israeli Defence Forces to fight in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.

Really? Bennett himself doesn't seem too upset...you can usually tell when someone on the panel has really ticked him off (like that "may I finish" incident with Henry Morgan).

roots66 Well if he was upset I doubt he would have reacted and caused a scene right on stage.

Oh, he was pi$$ed alright! Cerf's comment "Here is the very last word on water pollution, callipygian damsels, and panel moderation, John Daly" says it all. He was putting her in her place. He knew that Daly would side with him.

great episode and I'm surprised he was not recognized by the women on the panel...until Morgan's question. And he was an unpleasant, stick up the ass staple of talk shows like Merv Griffin's.

It certainly does not seem to me that Gypsie Rose Lee's intention was to be offensive. But it is very easy, in attempting to be funny, to say things that are taken in a different spirit than they were intended.
