Kinda frustrating when people make a take about a game without taking into account the entirety of the games collection. Wolfenstein began as a fps with strong loot based gameplay. You could not 100% a level without finding the secrets and treasure in wolfenstein 3d. Just saying. I played the shit out of that game as a kid

13:55 this example is honestly pretty terrible. Nathan Drake was never portrayed as some innocent guy who would never hurt a fly, and the people he has the kill are invariably bad guys with bad intentions, who are also after the treasure he wants. Drake is a thief, a criminal. Killing the competition isn't that strange, especially when that competition is psychopaths.

I honestly really loved AC Odyssey. I 100% that game twice on different difficulties. Since i just went around doing everything, level restrictions just wasn't an issue. Now, I am actually replaying the Ezio Trilogy on Steam and it very much rekindled my love for the series. Just in time for Mirage too. It made sense why the RPG games were not this true stealth based games because it was set before Altair's time where he really set down the current assassin order. Those games still had that DNA but you also had loads of options to choose from aside from just stealth.

I will say Halo Infinite in its current state is very good. The multiplayer has tons more than stuff than it used too and has one of the best forges. Its even gotten more players coming back on pc. But personally I’ve never had trouble finding a game. Halo Infinite is actually my second favorite Halo behind Halo 2

It still has a lot of the DNA from older AC games but you also get loads more options to go along with that. Honestly lore wise, it makes sense because the modern assassins were not there until Altair's time. All of RPG AC games were set before AC1. We get glimpses of what became the modern assassins with all of the different movesets you get.

I don't think I have played a COD game since... Black Ops and that I only played the story mode. I haven't played COD multiplayer since Modern Warfare 2, when I realised the game was the exact same game as the previous entry and I was like "why am I paying full price to play the same game I've been playing for the last year?" Is the same problem I have with FIFA or any sport game really. They literally change nothing about the game sometimes you get a graphical upgrade but you don't even get that every year. Then they expect you to spend £60 on it, as well as pay more money for microtransactions.

I would include the survival horror "grandfather" Resident Evil, which turned horror into action movies, at least the Resident Evil 5 and 6. Well it started with 4, but 4 was still iconic enough to differ themselves from the mainstream bs that followed. Silent Hill went downHILL after 3 as well. And Final Fantasy...while 12 was vastly different from it's previous titles, I still liked it. But from FF13 onwards it tried to do something new every entry instead of relying what they were good in. Yeah, the ATB system wasn't for everyone. But suddenly you were not really included in battles in FF13(the characters were controlled by the computer), then it suddenly became a discount Pokemon with 13-2 and then you were just one single character in the third FF13. They tried to throw out every gameplay mechanic they implemented immediately again

Honestly, I liked 13 and its sequels, but I hated 15. 15 is an open world... until you progress the story. So you have to complete every single side thing before doing the story or you will miss out. And I do not like that important events were cut out to be sold as DLC. But FF was always known for using slightly variable systems so it is pretty good at real time, turn-based and class systems and each game is its own world usually unless it is a direct sequel. So it has had room to try stuff, realise not everyone likes it, try something else, and people still get excited for new ones. Because we always know there'll be another turned based one, another real time one etc. eventually. Personally, X had my favourite battle system, but I have still liked a lot of them. But I didn't like 12 or 15 and have no interest in the online ones. I think it is fine if they try new stuff, as long as they keep the core of what makes it good in characters, story etc.. Not every FF will be my favourite or liked by me, but that's okay, because it will be someone's favourite, because none of the systems have been like, so far out of scope, they're absolutely trash or anything. And it isn't like some games I've played where I didn't really understand the battle system but still completed the game somehow.

@@ss.surprise I am all for trying something new and trying to be innovative. But they really throw out all core mechanics and start from scratch you know what I mean. I mean the first six games FF1-6 were pretty constant(you could say stale, if you want xD). FF7 implemented the materia but other than that it was pretty consistent with what one could expect of RPGs gameplay-wise. FF8 changed the entire recipe with junction, G.F., draw magic and monster level scaling that it was almost a complete different genre of gaming if you ask me. FF9 went back to the core and 10 refined it. But then it went off the rails. I think it's a weird balance of trying something new, but still rely on established norms people learned to love. A huge example for me is Paper Mario. They changed the battle system after the Gamecube entry. Exactly the one mechanic that almost everyone explicitly mentioned as its strong forte. Now they change the battle system in the following titles like Sticker Star, Color Splash and Origami King...and fail miserably imo

With Bioware, EA kept forcing them to use the Frostbite engine which is really hard to work with, and really limited in the RPG corner with what you could do.

And people give bioware so much shit about the state of Anthem 1. EA forced them to release it before it was ready 2. Bioware had plans to rework a large amount of the game, but EA shut it down 3. AC Unity is actually a pretty good game now. The parkour is the most complex in the series and it has many mechanics that help you tackle stealth in multiple ways. When Syndicate came along, they basically decided to scratch all of that.
