He loves this song. TIll Havs=At Sea. First, because he gets to sing in his native tongue. Second, because he loved fishing and being near water. An interviewer once asked him what he would do for a living if he was not a singer and he replied, "I would be a fisherman". He was a simple man of high intelligence, able to sing in any language, a natural talent shaped from a very early age by his father. The best singer, ever.

That is just insanely, heart-leapingly, beyond the beyond of wonderful. My favorite tenor, for now and forever. There were, are, and will be other magnificent tenors (of every kind), but Jussi is special.

It is so good to read the translation, which is all I could have hoped. Do I take it that you are a native speaker? If so, may I ask a further favour, a translation of Sommargladje, which was sung by three Bjorling brothers as children, then later as adults, so very joyful.

@@Blueswailer If Pavarotti thought so, why than he changed his Technics he had learned as a young singer and widened his mouth so he sounds flat? I really do not understand - or perhaps it was because of a weakness of his body, that he could not support good enough with his diaphragm?

Of course, many world stars come close to Jussi. For example, Pavarotti. Admittedly Jussi's voice is more appealing to me, but Pavarotti was definitely as big as Jussi in the genre of opera.

Yes, Pavarotti was fond of Jussi's voice and he himself was one of the foremost. But we don't know if he was a better judge than others. Pavarotti was the chef, and I am the guest, and as such I have as much experience, and so do many others. Consensus, Pavarotti made his judgments, who decides if they were better than ours?

The area "Til Havs" is an aria Bjoerling sang and which ended up on a 33 rpm vinyl record recital--Bjoerling in Concert--which I purchased 30 years ago. Vinyl is gone, but unless that recording has been transcribed to CD, I will keep my old record player going solely in order to be able to play that antiquated record and listen to the incomparable Bjoerling...who will never be antiquated because he is a singer for the ages.

amazing!!! I have only recently discoverd Jussi as I am not an opera buff by any means. However after listeing to him sing Nussun Dorma and the Pearl Fishers duet with Robert Merrel I'm begining to think God sent him to us so that we should know "his" voice when he speaks to us in the quiet times

Absolutely fabulous, with a brilliantly animated Jussi singing with the usual thrill -- how I love to listen to his recordings, watch his movie and TV appearances on video. (notice the Black first violinist just behind him? That's liberal Sweden even in those days-- all best musicians accepted to the orchestra, disregarding creed and color, not like segregated, discriminatory 1950s America, even in the arts, back then!)

Jussi er helt utrolig, unbelivable, og det uten all den mikkmakk'n artistene bruker idag for å skjule sine feil. Jussi treffer hver tone, og det med en kraft som er helt unik. Petter s . I work from home mostly. I'm up at 6am every morning and go to bed around 10pm. So there is enough time in the day to listen to Jussi. Take yesterday for instance, when I woke I played the full Aida, then a selection of arias and songs from studio,radio and live recordings. At 11am I drove to Birmingham and played the Turandot and on the way home Tosca.
