There was one particular day that I was driving through an area of Wisconsin and decided to stop my car just to stand and contemplate the lake and for the first time I was able to listen intently to the cracking of the ice. This reminds me of winter 94-95, in Chicago. The lake was almost completely frozen over. To put that in perspective, Lake Michigan is roughly the size of the Florida peninsula. The Coast Guard had ice cutters out to rescue stranded vessels. It's the coldest I have ever been in my life! 🥶 Then came summer 95, in Chicago. Just about the hottest I've ever been in my life. People say the Midwest has no natural scenery but Chicago and Detroit have the great lakes, Minneapolis has Lake Minnetonka, and Kansas City has Lake of the Ozarks. Those are the undisputed best lakes in the US. Maybe no mountains or oceans, but in a way theyre even better. Lake life is basically everyone driving their boats up to Water restaurants and bars and parking it there like a car. Basically a city on top of water. Ocean cities dont have that to the same extent.

True story: I was ice fishing on that iceburg when it started floating away. I grabbed my phone to call for help but dropped it right in the hole I was fishing. I floated all the way up Canada surviving on seal meat and lake water. Eventually I reached the shores of Canada where I was captured by Royal Canadian Mounties. I was accused of illegal entry and spent 6 months in a Canadian forced labor camp making hockey sticks. Imagine how bad it would suck if somebody was ice fishing on that sheet and as they packed up to go home they see they are a mile away from the coast

Amazing how the city itself also moved a little towards East at around the 0:18 mark. Nature is truly powerful. I hope everyone was ok.

Do you know how terrifying this is?! I read a story about a man on the ice in the Great Lakes where the ice broke away, and he had to ride with the ice as it left shore, the ice eventually met up with a lighthouse in the middle of the lake so he climbed up the lighthouse and had to chip away at the ice buildup on the building wile having his hands and feet frozen. Fortunately, there was a gas stove in the lighthouse and he was able to warm up. The problem was, getting back to land was a little more difficult.

@joeblow1115

@@EggwonMusk I was a bit wary of the possibility of breaking through the ice as I am a big guy so I looked for holes that other fishermen made in areas that I knew the ice was thicker. Most right at the edge and would look for any open bits of water. I used to fish the South Rocks whenever I could as big Brown's and Salmon would come over to that area under the docks.
