When you say black polish, what exactly is that??? Black stain???

Black French polish is available but I find it too black for antique restoration. I use French polish and add vegetable black, which is a black pigment. This is more of a very dark grey. This blends in better than a true black. If you are matching, this is usually fine. If it needs a bit of brown then add burnt umber, which is another pigment. You can also tint the colour with spirit based dyes. I have a couple of videos that have more information on polishing. Hope this is helpful.
