I'm just glad that it went this far and that MOFI were forced to learn a lesson. Hopefully other companies get the message that being transparent about the mastering chain, and not being lied to about it, is important to the record buyer. It tends to be a lie of omission though, and if a record's pressed from a CD but they don't say anything, there's probably not a case there.

Enjoyed the video. I stopped buying Mofi LP's many years ago. I have a few from the early 80's and early 2000's and found that their EQ choices didn't go well with mine. Coincidentally I had a couple of Santana LP's (not the one-step) I sold on DIscogs before Mofi-gate and got a decent amount for them, doubt that is the case anymore. I know that Miles Davis Mofi 45rpm pressings circa 2016? are flooding the market and going for pennies on the dollar now.

But it’s not a few bucks. You can return any of the Mofi records for a FULL REFUND. Most class action lawsuits rely on the customer’s word they bought X number of applicable units. But by requiring a full listing and proof of purchase you are able to get much more than someone saying, “Oh, yeah, I purchased three optical drives between 1999 and 2011”. Mofi are little rascals. They admit no liability for what they did, despite paying back millions to their customers. MoFi apologized for using “vague language”… which we can all agree is as much a lie as how they marketed their recordings. If there are no consequences for them, what’s going to stop them from pulling some shady stuff in the future?
@thevinylattack
Жыл бұрын
It’s a full refund if the suit goes that way. I have a feeling it will probably end up being just a few bucks to everyone involved, though. I suppose we’ll see.
@FrightfulMess

My biggest complaint about these class action lawsuits is that the plaintiffs (you and I) will usually be awarded $3.24 each while the lawyers go home with millions in Lawyer fees. These leaches are the ONLY real winners in these stupid legal clusterf&$%s, so what I think is that we, the PEOPLE, should be doing is bringing a lawsuit against this whole thing, demanding that these lawyers be awarded no more than what the plaintiffs are awarded (which I know would dry up these lawsuits as a result but so be it unless we can prevail to the bitter end of this whole legal mishmash). Thus, we get more, they get less, and honest JUSTICE prevails.

Well..! I am in Australia so I am automatically excluded. As such I probably don't have any right to comment here, however I will say this... Getting MoFi albums here is extremely difficult. The MoFi albums I own sound absolutely amazing. Did they mislead in their marketing? Sure, maybe! I don't care... The records and the presentation are beautiful. All said and done... who tf cares.?! If you do care that much then you need to go and take a cold shower and get a grip.

Been on the fence with these myself. I own a few 1-Steps and other Mofi releases. Before the fraud was exposed, I had issues with about every other purchase related to quality control. So, the lies pushed me to stop buying any products from Mofi and Music Direct. The problem with a full refund option is you can only get 110% of the original retail price. This means if you (over)paid the secondary market prices, you’ll lose money in the end. Who really wins there? For me, all I’m really looking for is an HONEST apology from Mofi instead of the half-baked explanation we got that doesn’t admit any fault. Unless that happens, they won’t see another dime of mine again.
@thevinylattack

I only own 1 Mofi one step, and I live in the UK (I read somewhere that you can only apply from within the US?). Anyway, the one step I do own, I bought after the whole Mofi-gate - so I knew about the DSD step when I purchased it. The reason I bought it was because it was a fav album, and it was massively reduced. Sure it sounds fine - would it have sounded better as an all-analogue chain? We’ll never know, maybe not. Would I buy another Mofi release? Only if it were priced the same as a regular vinyl record to reflect the now lack of exclusivity (that DSD file ain’t gonna degrade). If I was the owner of multiple Mofi’s, I’d be pissed at the fact that I spent all that money getting something that I thought was exclusive and special, so I urge anyone who can to make that claim.

The recording/mastering is superb, just sloppy work at the pressing plant (Germany). The second copy was actually worse than the first! If you choose not to take action, and still interested in their product, you should buy now at current prices. No way their pricing model remains the same after they have to absorb the lawsuit costs. For me, I buy SACDs anyway, so DSD was never an issue. I just hope those don't go up in price. I imagine this is also why we are not seeing their announced titles with any semblance of speed to market.

The law suit means nothing, they should be shut down and have their assets seized. An employee being "embarrassed" is not humility and contrition on the part of the company for &ucking over customers. I will never give them a dime in sales.
