Björn plunged places the Vikings never met before, Ivar united the Vikings for a greater purpose, Ubbe traveled West (as far as he could go) and Hvisterk gained lands in England. Ragnar’s sons basically fulfilled his dreams…

Great reactions, I think you guys really understood and appreciated this show. It's a very complete and consistent story with a strong sense of authorship over a long period of time since it was written by one person and created at the same quality from beginning to end over a very long period of time, it's a very unique experience in the TV world and almost more like watching a gigantic movie or experiencing a visual novel than your typical TV show. Really enjoyed your reactions and looking forward to Vikings: Valhalla whenever it premieres on Netflix. Ivar's death was really well done with him vicariously fighting through his soldiers - he's not Bjorn, he can't fight like that himself but that didn't stop him from being a boss. He's a natural commander and that's how he went out. If you notice when Hvitserk was fighting, the Saxon soldiers were saying "Kill Hvitserk" and "Kill the song of Ragnar" they were all targeting Hvitserk specifically but being the incredible fighter he is, he still managed to defeat every one of them himself without even getting hit. But even Hvitserk has to run out of energy sometime and Ivar knew he had to save him. When Alfred looked on in shock at Ivar's last stand, he wasn't just respecting Ivar as a legend, but when he saw Ivar save Hvitserk on the battlefield he remembered how his own brother Aethelred saved him on the battlefield in 5x15 during the fight where Heahmund died. That was the moment Alfred saw the humanity in Ivar and saw past the facade. This parallel between Ivar/Hvitserk and Alfred/Aethelred (the strategist brother/warrior brother) is very intentional as you can see a few scenes later when at Ivar's grave, Hvitserk says "Hail and farewell, my brother, hail and farewell" which is EXACTLY the line that Alfred said at Aethelred's grave. Even if Vikings alters and changes historical facts to fit the story, almost all of the ideas and concepts in the show are based on real history even if it doesn't happen the same way. You mentioned how Ragnar's fake death strategy in Paris wasn't actually his in real life (it was Bjorn's during his Mediterranean raids), and there are other examples as well, for example when Ivar killed the other child during the ball game, that was actually a different Viking child who actually did that. So they often give distribute the stories among characters differently, and they also did it with Hvitserk this season. In real history, Guthrum (the son of Jarl Borg and Torvi) is a major part of these final battles with Alfred and it was Guthrum who actually converted to Christianity after the Alfred's victory and changed his name to Athelstan. Since Hvitserk killed Guthrum in 5x10 (which is shocking to people who knew the history since everyone was expecting Guthrum to be a major character, similar to Sigurd), Guthrum's story was passed on to Hvitserk. Basically Sigurd and Guthrum were sacrificed for Ivar and Hvitserk on this show, since you can't fit everyone in all the time in movies and TV. The Last Kingdom does similar things too, with missing and cut out characters, Guthrum and Ubbe are there, but other sons of Ragnar are missing, for example. Anyway, Hvitserk has never found an answer in anything, he knows it's time for him to just let go of his former life and move on. He told Ivar to enjoy Valhalla, "while it still exists" because he can see the the days of the Viking gods is coming to an end, and he himself is now going to just live his life at peace. In real history, while Vikings sometimes fought with the Native Americans, they also traded with them and lived alongside them for a decent amount of time, they had better relations with both the Native Americans and Muslims than they did with the Christians, so you can see that here. Ubbe deciding to not go through with the blood eagle was the moment he let go of the old ways, that guy would never gone through without screaming anyway and such a display of brutality is really not something you want the Native Americans to associate you with. All throughout the early seasons, you could see how Ragnar always just wanted to make peace with the Saxons and create a new and peaceful settlement for his people, and Ubbe is the only one who finally managed to achieve Ragnar's dream. Floki had no trouble remembering anything else (and he carved the stories into the tree), so when Ubbe asked him what specifically about Iceland made him so sad, you can tell by the pause and the facial expressions that he's clearly lying when he says he doesn't always remember. He just doesn't want to talk about it because it's too painful and he'd prefer it if Othere told them instead. One of the primary themes of this show is religion, and one of the main reasons religion exists is to answer the question of death and whether or not that is the end. So it's very fitting that that is the question the show ends on, and of course it has to end without an answer, because there is no answer. This show showed a lot of difference perspectives on religion with the Viking gods, the Christians, Muslims, Native Americans, and even atheism with Ragnar, but it only brings up the question, and not the answer. About Vikings: Valhalla, it's being made similar to Vikings in that it is created well ahead of time. All three confirmed seasons are being filmed back to back and continuously and they will probably be finished filming the whole show years before the finale airs just like with Vikings. They already finished filming season 1 and are currently filming season 2. This final episode of Vikings sets up the premise of the show - Valhalla takes place after another big time jump. When Valhalla starts, half of Vikings have now converted to Christianity, so now there will be Christian Vikings and pagan Vikings and a lot of conflict between the two groups. Because of Ingrid's rule as explained in this last few episodes, Kattegat in Valhalla is now the remaining stronghold of paganism in Scandinavia and the pagan Vikings are fighting to keep hold of their religion. Meanwhile in England, there is a three-way war going on between Alfred's successors, Rollo's successors, and the Vikings. So that's the setup, it will tell the story of the last part of the Viking age as well as the birth of modern England which is a mix of the Saxons, Vikings, and Normandy. They've said the legacy of Vikings plays a big part in the show, so even though the story of our characters is over, the legacy of Ragnar, Rollo, Alfred, Ubbe, etc. and all of the the things they did will be talked about and continued in the sequel.

I disagree with Ivar being only vulnerable when alone. He showed a lot of vulnerability and emotion throughout the series, always with people he was close to and whom he trusted. He never had any problems showing tears in front of them and admitting his weaknesses or telling them how he felt. He was never a beast like you say, but he was one of the most emotional characters of the show, and the only one capable of loving deeply and unconditionally. Instilling fear in others was his only way of gaining other people’s respect, that’s why he did that, not because he was a bad person. The kid that accidentally killed another with an axe wasn’t being told it’s all right, btw. He was told it wasn’t his fault, and that’s the truth. It was the grown-ups’ responsibility. I’d like to give you the info you need on the historical background to understand the intended end of Ivar’s and Hvitserk’s journey together. Hvitserk, in this last episode only, is based on the historical Guthrum. Guthrum fought against Alfred in the Battle of Edington, and after Alfred managed to defeat the Vikings, Guthrum and Alfred signed the treaty of Wedmore. That treaty forced Guthrum/Hvitserk to convert (Hvitserk said at Ivar’s grave he trusted to be with him during Ragnaröck, so he did what Ubbe did before him - agreeing to what Christianity can do for him, but not truly renouncing his faith). Alfred became Guthrum’s godfather, made him a Saxon prince, and named him Athelstan (it’s not a full circle, it’s history). Guthrum/Hvitserk then went on to rule the vast Norse kingdom of the Danelaw in England for the rest of his life. This is Ragnar’s dream fulfilled - both Vikings and Saxons living side by side, farming and trading in peace. When Ubbe and Björn secured East Anglia, none of them stayed, not even Lagertha. There was continuous unrest between the Saxons and the Norse people. This stopped when Guthrum (or in this series Hvitserk) became king. Like Ivar said to Björn on the beach when the Rus attacked: ”His (Ragnar’s) real legacy is safe with me.” Thank you for all of your wonderful reactions. I’m a bit disappointed with your last one, I had the impression before that you understood Ivar’s character better, and I consequently expected more than what you came up with here. But I noticed you’ve been watching many more shows at the same time, so that might be a reason why you didn’t look as deep as you did before. Plus you were lacking the historical background. And of course you’re entitled to your own views, whatever they are. :) Thank you for the ride, I enjoyed your reactions!

"Not today Ivar, not today!" 💔😭 "Your eyes are very blue Ivar" :( Ivar's death is very sad, it was proven that he was feeling fragile..... He was like a child more broken inside than outside 🥺😭. He didn't deserve everything that happened to him, he had a tragic life since his birth..... Ivar always loved Ragnar, Hvitserk, Floki, his mother, Igor and his wife. "I'm afraid" that part broke me 😥

Vikings is one of the greatest shows of all time!!!! Gonna miss your reactions. Also truly gonna miss its legendary characters. Ragnar, Lagertha, Bjorn Ironside, Ivar, Harald, Halfdan, Torstein, Arne and all the others (like King Ecbert). They are all feasting in Valhalla right now with Odin and his Valkyries. Totally agree on this show having its flaws, but I believe its strengths totally overshadowed those. Top notch acting, incredible music, cinematography, battles, and most of all the intense emotional delivery which is what really made this show greater than so many other top shows. Skol.

I really appreciate you for appreciating the way Ivar died. I've seen many people with comments like "Alfred should have killed him in an epic battle" and I just like... I disagree so much. Most people irl didn't have some Hollywood battles in the end. Also there's the thematic reasons. Ivar was only human, yet he was also a legend and would not be forgotten. I so agree with you about that there's an actual message with his death. Kinda saddens me how some people want their usual Hollywood standoff. Btw I really liked the acknowledgement that him being a "piece of shit" was mostly a defense mechanism because that basically sums it all up. It doesn't excuse his actions but it's most definitely an explanation for he did have this desperate need to prove his strength in the harsh society he lives in and, because of his disability, it takes much more than from a "normal" person. When he actually did gain power it gave him a power trip (helped by comments from Ragnar and Freydis) and caused him to alienate the people whose acceptance he actually wanted. Ivar was his own worst enemy in a sense. He was hurt by his brothers' rejections for he thought it meant they couldn't accept him (a cripple) as a leader while in truth he was chasing them away himself with his shitty behavior. Yet you could see the contrast with people like Floki to whom Ivar showed his vulnerable and affectionate side. With his brothers he always seemed to put up this overblown facade of strength. His development in the end was absolutely beautiful.

Nobody actually realizes that Othere is actually Hvitserk! And somehow some weird time travel thing happened because Hvitserk regret not being with Ubbe the brother he loved. You see Idun is the goddess of immortality, she would give the apples of immortality to the gods. Othere went by the name Athelstan as well, it’s the reasons why Hvitserk was so happy in the rain. It’s the reason they gave us a close up him with a beard, and that Othere was so happy to find new land with Ubbe, because that’s his brother

I personally lost respect for Bjorn along the way. He was nothing like Ragnar. Bjorn couldn't keep his junk in his pants. Bjorn slept with every female that walked. He also treated his daughter Siggy, like he gave 2 shits about little Siggy. I lost respect for him because of this. How often did Ragnar sleep around? Once with his 2nd wife and again with Asain supplier of his "medicinal" herbs. He was not a perfect man. Ragnar was very imperfect but he kept his dignity on many levels. Sure, some of you will argue: "he abandoned his children and his kingdom". Even so I respected more than Bjorn.
