Ragnar wanted to go west, discovering new lands to farm and cultures to explore. Ever since he did that, Ragnar has been forced to do more and more, his hand being forced each time. Now, when we see Ragnar at his lowest point, he wishes for nothing more than to be back on his farm. Damn sad man.

Ragnar's hallucination scene is one of my favorite scenes in televsion history. I get hit in the feels every time I watch it. Travis Fimmel is such an incredible actor. Ragnar's theme song is being played during the hallucination scene. The same song played when Lagertha and Bjorn left him at the beginning of season 2. Just an amazing scene that shows the amazing talents of Fimmel and Michael Hirst.

I agree with Travis being a great actor, but Michael Hirst? really? His writing is ridiculous, you have characters dying over nothing and written off extremely poor, you have others who have a repetitive storyline and no growth, and then you have other characters who are simply still alive (In the Case of Season 5B) because Hirst doesn't know what to do with them, if anything the only character who's had been written decently is Ubbe, but to speak of the other characters like Lagertha, Bjorn, or Rollo, their storyline have been pathetic, even Magnus' storyline was pointless as a whole.

Part that gets me everytime is when he sees his farm, with Lagertha, Athelstan and his daughter that passed in his vision. The life he wishes he could go back to since he has realized the power that has been FORCED upon him by others actions has turned him very depressed now finding that beetle nut (the drug he takes and makes his mouth red) gives him this trippy euphoria with some hallucinations depending on the dosage I read, hence why the first time he took it he was buggin because she was giving him a lot in that scene.

The Silk Road is active at this time period & silk from China did make its way to Sweden at roughly this time period & weapons from Sweden in this time period made their way to China but it is uncertain if people from these two places met at this time period. It’s thought that just the items traveled the road by way of trade deals About 50 to 100 years after this time period the Kiev Rus empire did have a trading outpost just inside or just outside the border of China for almost the entire time of their empire (if I find the documentary I saw on this, I’ll post the link)

I know a bit of China´s history...so I also know that the Chinese were able to produce high quality steel since the 4th Century..that steel had that kind of quality which the Europeans could make in 1846 by using a special workingprocess invented by Siemens. So why should they import weapons made of - from their prospective - made of minor quality steel (to be honest "shitty steel") from Sweden or from anywhere else in Europe??? I think other goods came from Europe to China at that time..gold coins and cups, silver coins and cups, jewelry and amber of course ..stuff like that.. Ragnar lived in the 9th century and at that time there was in China the Tang-Dynasty in charge..and it was also the time where the Chinese met at some point the one and the other single Christian the very first time..

@@gandhialwaysleavesanonion679 It was possible to thrust through armour with a sword but swords are just not made for that. Some speers, a hammer or an axe on the other hand are built just for that and can put way more force on the plate.

Interesting to her the term "Monkey in the middle" we have I assume the exact same childhood game here in Britain tho it was coined "Piggy in the middle" I think Bjorn shouting uncle was more than just addressing him. Rollo's family have now returned to Paris and despite Rollo having thrown away his kinship with his people, Bjorn shouting Rollo is a reminder to him and to the viewers that his betrayal runs very deep to those who held him closest and looked up to him. Don't forget that when Ragnar was at his most stressed moments, he has lashed out at Bjorn and treated him unfairly, It has been Rollo that has come to comfort him when he's lost, not Ragnar.
