These guys were really the best two players in the league at this time.

Lmao. Kobe absolutely was not one of the 2 best players in the league in 2001. He didn’t become one of the 2 best players in the game until him and T-Mac took over in 2002/2003. He wasn’t thee best player in the game until 2004/2005. When T-Mac handed him the torch after the career dampening back injury with the Rockets. And Kobe was the best in the game from then onward to the 2008 Olympics when Wade took the torch for the next 3 years. Every player not named Michael Jordan only has about a 3-4 year stretch when they are ACTUALLY “the best” in the world. The peak of their prime. Kobe was at his peak his last couple years as number 8.. 2006 Kobe was unstoppable. He was leaps and bounds better than he was 5 years earlier in ‘01. Vince was the best player in the world here. Until T-Mac took the torch from him late in ‘02 and then Kobe from him late in ‘04 and so on. This was Shaq’s team in ‘01.. Shaq is who Vince took the torch from this season. Late in 2000, he was the best in the game from 2000-2002, for those 2 seasons. ‘01 & ‘02. Kobe was good sure, you could tell he was GOING to be one of the 2 best players in the game, but he wasn’t YET. Shaq was the other top dog with Vince at this point. And Iverson and T-Mac too. Iverson won the MVP and the scoring title this year cuz he went on a late season tear and Vince had a slump toward the end of the season so he took the scoring lead from him for the overall season. And MVP iverson led that 6ers team to the finals against LA this year. He was a dog.. But like I said, this was SHAQ’s team. Shaq was the 3-time finals MVP in that 3-peat for a reason. Kobe absolutely was NOT better than Shaq in 2001. Not even slightly. Shaq was still at the top of his prime at this point. The previous season was his apex, his peak, and this season he was pretty much just as good. He was 28 here going on 29. Kobe did not take over as LA’s best player until 2003. Late in 2002.. Once Shaq had hit 30 years old and had a knee starting to go out. Kobe was the supporting star that GOT most of the points and shots he got because they were double teaming Shaq and then he’d just dish it to an open Kobe. And literally most of Shaq’s points were offensive putbacks off of Kobe’s bricks. Kobe WASN’T a great shooter at this point. He didn’t become a good outside shooter until 2003. He worked hard on his outside shot in 2002, in that offseason. And that’s when he was entering his prime anyways. 2003 Kobe was better than Shaq, but in 2001 Vince and Shaq were clearly still better than him.

@@dazdavis7896 Very good analysis. It shows you know the history of the game. Vince had enough raw talent to match 2006 Kobe, but he couldn't stay healthy. Kobe would go on to maximize his skillset because of his relentless work ethic, while Vince seemed to lose interest once the knee injuries took away that 44 inch vertical he had and knocked it down to about 38-39 by 2004, which was still very good, but no longer elite, plus he lost some agility, which was never his strong suit to begin with. Vince essentially peaked in the year 2000. He was starting to break down physically during the period of time in which this game took place. Vince's shooting form in this game and during this period of time is the best I have ever seen. Immaculate.

Vince is talking about the tussle they got into in the 05-06 season when he was on the Nets. Always wonderied what was being said between them.

Yup! I remember that game. I was very upset because I was a Vince Carter fan and it seemed like him getting into it with Kobe really bothered him because he only scored 9 that game. On the other hand Kobe gave him a 40 piece. I was really pissed at Vince for that. Lol. But I also always wondered if any of them would ever talk about that moment. I wish Kobe was still here so we could get his perspective too.

I remember Vince Carter hating on Kobe’s 81 point game. He said something to the effect of”It’s a bad example for kids and teaches them how to play selfishly.” I’d have to look the exact quote but he was hating hard.

@@ButtZilla Admin a great video you put up. Just wondering WHY u showed Kobe fg misses although he shot 14/29 48% while you just showed 2 missed shots from VC who shot 10/32 that is 31% Are you trying to sabotage Kobe like they do on social media these days or was this just a coincidence 🧐
