He looked at him like a modern day Vincent, ginger and all. Just someone bringing art to the world and helping others, even if not everyone likes what he makes. Especially not right away. Like me, I only like a handful of Ed's work. With songs like "A-Team" though, I know he is worth the respect of a listen. Even more so with a cover of a classic like "Vincent."

Went to his concert in Maryland in 2010; he still sounded great. Saw him again in Calgary in 2015 and thought he sounded much better than he did in 2010. This man is one of the greatest singers in my lifetime.

You cannot take away McLean’s poetic lyrics and song writing, but he must be thinking, “I once had a strong voice like that” when he hears Sheeran sing. Great treat. What a thrill for Ed and the fans that night.

Sorry to any of you that are Ed Sheeran fans ( and I am too) but as a composer Don McLean is a legend in his writing. Ed may catch up but McLean is a master who, almost every song was a masterpiece. They were not necessarily popular but masterpieces nonetheless

Don McLean's American😮 Pie is practically an anthem and written by McClean after the death of the late Buddy Holly and this song, Vincent was written for Vincent Van Gogh, who was ridiculed and ostracized by fellow artists and the public humiliation contributed to his suicide. Van Gogh who suffered from deep depression, died penniless and alone. His painting "Starry Starry Night" is considered a masterpiece today and I hope that Vincent Van Gogh somehow knows that he is appreciated in today's world of art. I think that Don McLean relates to Van Gogh because he's such a beautiful singer and his songwriting skills are amazing. His musical genius has not been appreciated enough, in my opinion.

Don McLean got a lot of exposure on radio and TV for his two hits in the early 70s. After that, he kind of faded into obscurity. The whole singer-songwriter/storyteller movement had faded out by the late 70s. By the time MTV was launched in 1981, they were all out of fashion. So they either changed their style to be more current, or carried on doing gigs without having hits, or they stopped playing altogether.

You can't be a legend until you fit a few very select criteria's. Ed sheeran is still young, still sings to girls/women and hasn't trually bridged every music lover. I'm mainly a rock n roll man but absolutely love all music, Pavarotti nessun dorma 👌. And there's many more that he'd need to meet (Ed sheeran) before he's even considered a legend. The word gets used as a through away statement far to often. The guys a great song-writer and good singer (not top drawer) but his youthfulness makes up for that but still you can't compare both of these. And Don Mclean I don't listen to much but yes he is a legend

He was a Poet and appreciated Don McCleans Homage to Vincent Van Gogh. The Singer/Songwriter Roberta Flack, wrote the song “Killing Me Softly” about Don McClean. ..”They said he had a good song, they said he had a style, and so I went to see him to listen for awhile”. Jibber jabber in the background is rude and annoying during such a deep and tender beautiful work of art about an artist's suffering to a suffering artist. I can't listen to it without a tear. and the bitches in the background just keep on jabbering. Probably had no notion of whom the Vincent in the song referred to. Or about how he lived in poverty and devolved into madness and finally took his own life and left on uncaring public some of the greatest works of art created by man. "Sunflowers" was sold decades ago for $30 million dollars. Vincent had to borrow money for paint.
