I recommend you watch historical movies that dont come from hollywood or try watching a historical tv series, even some of the netflix ones. @@romanpanzertestudo7400 i mean fair though i will give any entertainment series like this a bit more benefit of the doubt. It a similar philosophy to assassins creed where if the historical text have a gap or are absent on the matter, make something interesting up. This attack was carried out on a saturday when the vikings in the Danelaw were bathing (vikings were know to be quite clean bathing once a week, many suggest on saturdays) King Sweyn later says this attack is the excuse for his invasion, which would make these attacks what is known as the The St Brice’s Day Massacre The St Brice’s Day Massacre took place on 13th November 1002, A SATURDAY." now Vinland didnt go super deep into this, honestly they were almost throwaway scenes. If you’re a fan of historical fiction, check out Kaoru Mori’s manga series “Emma” and “A Bride’s Story”, the former of which has an anime adaptation. The quality of her intricately detailed artwork and research is jaw-dropping. Although as fair warning to Vinland Saga fans, the tone of her stories is completely different.

Honestly WIT studio is amazing. It's even more mind-blowing that they give new artists chance to showcase their talents. And they produce such quality anime and such Varied types of anime. I love them. It's horrible how WIT studio wasn't payed much for Attack on Titan. Attack on Titan wouldn't be attack on titan without everything WIT did for the series. Vinland Saga was great but ep 18 with the enlightenment of Canute, I was really sold on this show. Vinland Saga has so much heart to it. The manga series has become one of my all time favourites, heck it might be my FAVOURITE.

Of the "big four" of the manga world I have read/watched Breserk and, yes, Vinland saga. And of them Vinland saga is my best. Don't get me wrong Breserk is AWSOME! But sometime about the Vinland saga is "real". No glorification of violence and the like. I just love it!

Makoto does drama unlike others in the medium becuase he likes choosing settings that no other show would set itself in, and ofc, doesn't stop there, he knows what's special about his setting and explores themes that are only present in that setting, that's the strength of makoto i feel, and why anybody reading this should go read the fucking manga becuase the next arc is THE best arc in vinland, now then, go.. go!

AniDB disagreed with me, but i'm gonna say, if you like Legend of the Galactic Heroes, this is the next one to watch (or vice versa). Same slow burn, ridiculously fantastic character development, and brutal look at what war really is. I only hope that it continues. Forever.

I enjoyed Vinland Saga until about six episodes from the end when the focus shifted from Thorfinn's quest for revenge to the politics of the world. The politics were always there, but didn't really interest me too much, partly because I had trouble remembering who was who and to whom they were allied to. I'm sure later chapters bring the focus back to Thorfinn, but I felt the story was left in a place where I could head canon that that was the end of the story. As such, I don't plan on watching the seconds season if/when it is made.

@@arsenalo1115 My biggest problem were characters with superhuman strength. Like this series praises itself with being a historical. Then you have characters jumping 10 meters from a ship to other or throwing trees. I can understand giving them super strength to make fights more interesting and even support it. But when it's super strength in a historical anime just for the sake of it , it didn't felt right. Luchily the good writing helped me get over it

@@parazitul1986 well, the entire story is based on viking sagas. Makoto Yukimura really invests himself in details when writing stuff, so he most def. wrote these superhuman feats in so the characters would mimic viking heroes of the sagas. things like 1 man standing up to several hundreds, a man lifting giant rocks or tree logs or just a small boy fighting a giant are made so they fit the grand storytelling vikings favoured. hope this helps a bit with the non-realistic parts of it:)

Great Video 👍. As a Manga Reader of the Show i had the fear that the Studio would chance the pacing and amount of Details compared to the Manga, but they did a very good Job overall 9.5/10 in therms of Adaptation. Thorfinns Charackter Arc is only in the beginning so get ready.
