He threw, in no particular order, the following people under the bus: His mom, dad, Gene, his mentally ill sister, the kids at school, Gene, Ace, Peter, Eric, Gene,Vinnie, Mark St. John, Bill Aucoin, Gene, Howard Marks, Bob Ezrin, his first wife, Gene, his shrink,and lastly, Gene. Its amazing how nothing in this man's life has ever been his fault. I'm sure one day when he looks back on his lip synching, that will of course be someone elses fault as well. I'm embarrassed I spent $ on this book.

@strnglhld

@@houseofshuffles449 He said that since Gene was raised as an only child he had issues, that he was very overweight with a double chin, and that he was incredibly arrogant. For example, when they first met and Paul played a song for him, Gene was in shock that someone aside from John Lennon and Gene Simmons could also write a song. He said that Gene was only out for himself and not the band. In interviews, Gene said “I” rather than “us”. He was focused on his side projects more than he was the band. He said he threw a quarter in the street and Gene would go running after it. He said some distasteful stuff about the late Eric Carr that I wouldn’t have said. What’s the point of saying he went on a date once and had bad gas? IMHO the person he rips on the most is Peter Criss. He said he’s “not an intellectual”, “not a thinker”, could barely read, and didn’t understand the basics of music like song structure, chorus, and even playing the drums, and that he needed one-on-one tutoring to play the drums. I was expecting him to say he was special needs!

I think most of the "hate" for Vinnie comes from two things. First, he was the replacement for Ace Frehley... THIS, in itself, is blasphemous to rock fans of the 70's and early 80s. Ace was considered a rock god, even by most rock stars of that era. Anyone who stepped into his shoes at that time was doomed to fail. Second, Vinnie plays too fast, even in a era where speed was king and the faster you played the more people thought you were great. Vinnie's playing was, as Paul put it, all over the place. It didn't match the rhythm and lacked melody, but it sure was fast. People actually disliked him for this, plus the fact he was very arrogant about it and felt that speed equals talent. He was full of it.

I dislike Vinnie both musically and personally. His playing on the two KISS albums was great but I dislike his playing on most of his solo albums. Like the original commenter here said, he overplayed and he played too fast. When he slowed it down and tried to be melodic as on "That Time Of Year", he was really good. I suspect that when Vinnie was about to make his first VVI album, he looked around and saw that shredders like Van Halen were selling a lot of albums and he thought trying to outdo Van Halen would lead to huge sales of the album. He should've just tried to make the songs as good as possible and forget commercial considerations. My reasons for disliking him as a person stem from taking money from his fans for box sets of his music and not fulfilling his orders, plagiarizing a song Rik Foxx wrote, ripping off Hersh Gardner, and so on. The guy has a long history of ripping people off and not honoring his agreements. The second label to sign him as a solo act, Enigma Records, dropped him after they paid for him to make an album, only to find out that he was shopping the album around to other labels in hopes of getting a better record deal when he already had a deal with Enigma. The guy has always been an untrustworthy bum.

Brian St. James it's an ego based lie. Eddie had total freedom at that time, playing in the biggest band in the world, with HIS family name in lights, playing with his brother, his best friend, every night. Kiss was almost dead, and notorious for mistreating bandmates. Sure, he'd leave VH to be a salaried role player in Kiss. No frigging way. This is his attempt to inflate his ego. Like making up a story about a hot chick coming on to you, but you turned her down. The key tell is, he makes sure to say "Eddie was wasted". That's his escape cover. So if Eddie denies it, he can say "well, you were pretty wasted". Liar.

@George Michaels you said it George. They were cheap and they had 4 years of failure. After Dynasty's release and quick platinum sales that was it. Both Bill Aucoin, in the Aucoin tapes and Peter Criss mention that KISS stopped selling albums from 1980 to 1986.The KISS back sales dried up and it wasn't til Lick It Up gained traction. They owed Polygram millions for the failures of Unmasked, The Elder and Creatures of the Night. Polygram offered them, allegedly a whopping $US30 million and paid them 10 million in advance in '79. Curse - it was a big pay day for the KISS members until Unmasked tanked. Polygram allegedly stopped paying them hoping the next album would be a hit. The Elder sold 110 000 copies in the U.S. The famous Creatures sold a whopping 75,000 units! Mark Slaughter from Slaughter let it slip in an '88 interview that KISS were broke owing Polygram over 10 and I have heard $US16 million. The millions made in the Seventies also dried up in back taxes and bad accountants who made even worse business decisions. You can see how Gene and Paul planned an original line up reformation.Paul, who is a pathological liar actually told the truth and said that tribute bands started flooding the US market. The KISS expos were very successful and so were numerous KISS tribute bands. 2 +2 =4.
