Raise a glass to Vino Rosso...
The 4-year-old son of Curlin landed the $6 million USD 2019 Breeders’ Cup Classic over McKinzie at Santa Anita Park.
It was the first Classic victory for trainer Todd Pletcher, who holds the record with seven Eclipse Awards as the leading trainer in North America, increasing his overall win total at the Breeders’ Cup to 11.
Vino Rosso and jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr., (who took over riding duties as of the Jockey Club Gold Cup), patiently tracked frontrunning Preakness Stakes winner War of Will, with McKinzie, Higher Power, Elate and Code of Honor all in behind.
Vino Rosso has since arrived at Spendthrift Farm in Lexington, Kentucky, to take up residence for his next career as a stallion.
