Love these reels. Got hooked a couple of years ago collecting them. I have over 100 now. Call it a sickness but I call it fun! Thanks!

A very nice roll. I bought one at an online auction yesterday. Especially happy to find one when my first was stolen in the 80's. I live about 80 km from Svängsta where the Ambassador rolls are made, despite that it is very difficult to find the green from the 70s. Rare. Nice presentation of your very nice roll!

I have 22 of the green 5000 D reels. You are correct they are hard to find in great shape. You can indeed find them on eBay but usually they are well worn, meaning junk. Thx for watching

No dud. A fine piece of innovation for the time. Works flawlessly and is nearly bulletproof.

I recently went trough a bag of my dad's old reels & I came across one of these & I'm looking forward to using it. I just need to find the Right Pole to put it on. Also need to learn how to use it lol since I've always used spinning reels.

I was given one of theses with 750100 on it. I never knew their were reels with a drag system like this. I'm very excited to use it but is their anything different I should know when it comes to cleaning a 5000D? Are parts are to find?
@vintagerecordambassadeur4098

Parts are not too hard to find because most are identical to any vintage 5000. The free spinning click wheel assembly is different but usually can be found on eBay or some other auction site. Sometimes ereplacement.com is a good source. As far as cleaning everything is pretty straightforward. Lube where needed, sparingly. Use an thin oil, such as Rem oil or my favorite Daiwa reel oil as not to impeded performance. Pay special attention to the drag discs. Make sure and use a quality drag grease such as Cals drag grease on both sides of every fiber/paper disc. Doing so will make the system as smooth as butter and dependable for 47 more years. Enjoy your reel and don’t hesitate to ask any questions that may arise. Kind Regards

These are awesome reels I have not had a great opportunity to fish with my 5000d reel. I truly enjoy fishing with vintage reels (some Pflueger's, South Bend's, J.C. Higgin's and others.) Coming back to the ABU 5000D, I don't normally fish with braided line other than using it for backing. I notice what looks like braided line on your reels. What do you recommend for this particular reel braided and or mono plus LB test? I enjoy the way you take your time in explaining your thoughts on the subject. Gracias

I use braid on all of my reels 100% of the time. I love it. The 5000D in the vid is loaded with 65# Spectra braid. That’s about the minimum I use. The other reels in the thumbnail for the vid are loaded with a blue 80# 8 strand braid. Just a note. Make sure after tying the braid on your spool that you use a piece of electrical tape (simply because it’s waterproof) to go around the spool and keep the slippery braid from spinning on the spool when you apply pressure. If you don’t, the line will slip on the spool and wont allow your drag to do its job.

These wonderful reels had infinite guarantee, at least in Finland. There were some idiots who broke those reels in order to have a new one! An older one is always way more valuable for me. Fishing memories etc.

What a cool boss. There should be 6 numbers on the bottom of the reel foot, not 5. I can tell by the number your reel was made in Dec of ‘73 and was the first edition. The forest green 5000D actually had several subtle variations. From almost blue to dark green. All are sought after.

so whats the diff between it with a 5000c or 5500c? i don't understand what the "d" does? no drag?
@vintagerecordambassadeur4098
Жыл бұрын
The “D” designates the reel as a direct drive model. There is no drag star wheel but there is a drag knurled knob. When the handle is released the drag engages and the handle rotates backwards allowing line to be pulled out. The knurled knob increases or decreases the amount of pressure “drag” needed to rotate the handle and release line. Very simple yet effective system

@@vintagerecordambassadeur4098 Thank you. I fish in the pacific north west rivers for salmon. So free spooling drifting and a decent fighting drag is ideal. I usually use a 5500c3 or 5600c4. Would the "D" be suitable in this fishing?
@vintagerecordambassadeur4098
Жыл бұрын
@@eeeffert6042 I think it would be just fine. Might want to consider a hi capacity spool, which are readily available on ebay, if your intended target is a big, hard running salmon. About 65% of the D models are equipped with a bait clicker on/off slide button. You would probably find that useful as well. Don’t hesitate if you have any more questions. Good luck my friend
