My dad still own it and very satisfied with it after 20 years with its perfromance. He bought it as second-hand...

Very informative video. It's really cool to see the effect of the loudness control. I always wondered about the effect that has on the sound. I enjoyed this video. Thanks

@@vintageaudioreview My 1985 Yamaha A-1020 has it. I have never used it while listening to music. I occasionally operate it to make sure the signal is passing through cleanly. Nobody seems to really like it.

It was great to see your video. I am just getting started in this world and got this as my first vintage amp. It's in great shape and I paid 150cad. Hope I made a decent choice! Cheers

I have a 1020 model, is it better than a 500?

@@nuznikas I like the style of the 1020 and I think it has a little more power. My guess is that they would sound pretty similar. I appreciate the question.

Thanks for this great review… I’ve just subscribed! I have a A-500 which was in storage for a while. Now it has crackling pots.. I’ve ordered a can of Deoxit and it should do the trick. However I wonder where I could get hold of that special thin tip to use on the switches as you showed on the video. Any help on this would be much appreciated…

Thank you so much for subscribing and I am glad you liked the video. I thought I mentioned about the tips, but I got them when I was refilling my inkjet cartridges. You want to make sure they are not pointed needles. I also think Deoxit sells a fine tip. If you make your own, be sure to scuff up the surfaces of the tips and use something like JB Weld epoxy. Here are some possible tips: filljet.com/p/injector-kit-4pk?ref=GPD&gclid=CjwKCAjwg4SpBhAKEiwAdyLwvAOmcDkpeTVw-kmH6HPIIs74cGi3CXEGSws9GPvXlOcyaphcEbIUuRoCgKMQAvD_BwE

So I'm a guitar player, not a hifi enthusiast. But I'm looking at this thing and I know I can hook it to my boss katanana mkii somehow. They're both class a/b and there is a power amp in jack on the back of my guitar amp. Is this going to be something really stupid for me to do?
@vintageaudioreview

Thanks for the question. It looks like your Boss Katana is an amp and so I am not sure why it would have a power amp in jack to be honest. I am guessing it's a line level input for your guitar amp and if so, you would have to connect it to your tape monitor output of the A-500, which would require a connector adapter and most likely it would not be stereo.

Can i add a subwoofer to this? i have two speakers rated at 60W at 8ohms??
@vintageaudioreview

It does not have a subwoofer out, so as long as your subwoofer has a built in crossover it should work- I am assuming it is a passive subwoofer(s). Most folks want more power than what the amp puts out for their subs, but it may work fine in a smaller room.

@vintageaudioreview

@@nellydicer It depends on what the speakers' impedances are. If they are both 8 ohm speakers, you could but unless you get lucky and can balance out the level of the subwoofers with your front speaker, you are going to have troubles...
