I was a teenage kid in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada when the fire advert was in magazines. I could not afford a Marantz Stereo but saw one in a dorm room at St. Francis Xavier University. I had to settle for a Realistic Receiver. I have wanted an old school Marantz Receiver ever since those days. Perhaps one day I will find one. Rosie, I have enjoyed your commentary and this history lesson.

Thank you so much for bringing some history forward for us Marantz owners. One thing however, the signature blue you showed is not the signature blue they originally come with. What you showed there is the LED light conversion. The signature blue is more like a sea blue color. Much more appealing in my opinion.

What made Marantz a great name ,and it continues this day thanks to the blessed Ken,is the fact that it always been subjectively tested ,they have always listened to their equipment and fine tuning has taken place.

"the fact that it always been subjectively tested ,they have always listened to their equipment and fine tuning has taken place."......The same applies to every other brand of audio equipment. Unless you know of a company that does some drawings, builds it then throws it into a box and off to the store without listenning to it.

Rosie, you did good. Many of your points would have been so well-suited for Saul's Eulogy. Like you I fondly remember being in my brother's university apt. with his Marantz 2245, and Marantz model 2 speakers, a Perpetuum-Ebner 3015 turntable with a Shure M91ED cart. listening to my very first high fidelity experience ( I was 13, it was 1973 )! In addition to audio that I didn't know could sound so real, the blue lights of the 2245 in his darkened room only added to my experience. Because of that, when I was old enough I acquired my own 2325, and it is now providing the sound for the TV system ( it's been rebuilt and brought back into spec. hopefully for another 30 years )!

Hi Rosie, I'm a Marantz collector. very nice video. I've subscribed and watched all your repairing vids. -Some things. 10B has a scope, build in by Richard Sequerra, a wizard who helped inventing the 10B scope tuner. After Superscope takeover, they produced both in Japan and USA (like 30, 1200, 3800, 250,250M...) so high end was America. Thanks again!
@dalesummers8152
7 жыл бұрын
Legend has it that the 10B was so expensive to produce that Marantz lost money on them, even thou it was by far the highest price piece of home audio ever sold up till that time. They lost so much money on the 10B that the company was put in financial jepordy and was forced to sell to Supersocpe to stay in business. The Model 18 receiver was the last piece to be designed by the origonal team and made in the Brooklyn factory. Saul Marantz then retired and the company moved to a new facility in Sunnyvale CA where the high end seperates were built for many years.

I always liked the Marantz 70's vintage Tuners with the built-in scope (for multipath) and the classic knurled tuning knob. I ended up with a Kenwood KT7000 and KT6060 scope. I traded-in the Tuner in 1999 (got 19 years of use out it..) but kept the vintage scope which I have since re-capped.

I used to have a MARANTZ 143 stacking system with Linear Tracking Turntable and the units had to be stacked in such a way that everything sat as flat as possible otherwise one or other connector would not mate up as the connectors where on the top and bottom of the amp and on the top of the cassette deck and on the bottom of the tuner.

I have five Marantz receivers including the twenty five and is the only one i think look cool because the rest look stamped out and can't stand the sliders on Marantz and thats why Marantz don't sell for much in today's market except the 2500 and 2600 well the Pioneer and Sansui sell for way over ten grand. I also have several Kenwood and Technics including SA1000 and these are just junk in my life sound changes as they worm up and spend more time in the repair shop and will begin trying to recover some of the money I invested. Love my long lasting and build of the Pioneer all the way up to my Pioneer SC09 10 channel receiver and a cost of seven thousand and its been grate performer

Well, this was very pleasant. The teetering amp on the table added a bit of excitement... After going through a pile of tube and solid state gear, with new and old, I pulled a 2235b outta my closet and hooked it up to a pair of Paradigm mini monitors. A great match. Always push as much power through your speakers as you can, before it's too much. That's the sweet spot. Good luck with your room acoustics, and keep that room on the small side. I pulled those Paradigms out of my bedroom theater system, which had an old Onkyo 5.1 theatre amp. Trust me, I never needed to use my sub in that room. The sound was amazing. Never judge an amp listening to radio. Thanks again. You think George Will wears a rug?

Rosie I have a question. Whats your thoughts on adding one of those large three pronged power cords to vintage Marantz ? I have the 2245, really like it, going to upgrade with banana connectors, was wondering about the power cord. Not much space to add another, but what if used the high power outlet hole (its connected to the two going out for the power) Wondering what thoughts you have on that. Don't see any info on people upgrading their Marantz power cords.... is there a reason why?

I havent heard any 70s ,60s marants, only 80s and beyond , ive never been impressed with them, do the old ones have a better sound? and I want one for my collection anyway haha there quite pretty and no collection is complete without one, seeing how saught after old marantz are. so Opinions. please. Is it a fair trade, One of the rotels for a marantz 4300, hes asking 850 for it and it isnt perfect. Rosie: I collect and restore vintage audio equipment just like you do. Lots of McIntosh, Marantz, Fisher, Sansui, Scott, etc. I visited your chat site this Saturday evening and I was very surprised to see it was being edited by a fellow named Greg. I totally believe in freedom of speech and to tell it like it is without sweeping anything one doesn't like under the rug. I was simply trying to have fun when Greg removed a comment I had made. I live in Utah and the Mormon church does this all the time on their sites. Same thing with Islam. You don't know me from Adam so when I say I will not participate on edited sites I'm sure you could care less. Your videos are both informative and fun. I love non conventional characters like you but I despise someone deciding what I can say or post. Bye and good luck.

Agreed, Bang and Olufsen is massively overpriced and not especially good. Pretty much everyone that bought B&O did so for the styling and/or the kudos associated with it's high price. I owned an old B&O crt TV and it was pretty much a modified Philips set....They were the Apple of the pre-Apple world. Nothing special but people often drooled over it.
