All of those attachments were advertised in the back pages of Popular Science or Popular Mechanics in the late 50’s and 60’s along with all types of plans to build shelves or cabinets or just about anything. Most folks weren’t flushed with cash and having one tool that does all with multiple accessories was a godsend. People with well outfitted workshops were few and far between but self-sufficency was in abundance and that’s the market they went after. Snoopy Dog was looking over your shoulder…

First of all I really enjoy seeing Snoopy show up from time to time. As far as the Black & Decker accessories, I went to school to be an Industrial Arts teacher. When I graduated from college in 1993 and I got that coveted first job I discovered a book on the shelf at work, printed in England that showed teaching wood working using such tools. I, at that point had never seen such tools before so I determined it must be a "European thing". Clearly I was wrong about that. Very neat stuff. Thanks for sharing.

I absolutely love the Black and Decker accessory tool kit. It's a shame how bad their stuff is anymore. Here's a little blurb about their history that I think is interesting. Great video, John. [1910 - "The Black & Decker Manufacturing Company" was founded by S. Duncan Black (1883-1951) and Alonzo G. Decker (1884-1956), as a small machine shop in Baltimore in September. Decker, who had only a seventh grade education, had met Black in 1906, when they were both 23-year-old workers at the Rowland Telegraph Company. With only $1,200 between them, one of their first jobs was designing machinery for making milk bottle caps and candy dipping.[5] 1912 - The Black and Decker "Hexagon" logo symbol was introduced, symbolizing the head of a hexagonal bolt found in machine shops. It was used in one form or another from 1912 to 2014.[6] 1917 - Black & Decker invented and patented the hand-held electric drill with a pistol grip and trigger switch.[2][7] -- For many decades the director of design was Glenn Calvin Wilhide, a friend of Walter Gropius and other industrial designers of the day. Wilhide filed many US patents for Black & Decker. 1917 - The first factory was opened in Towson, Maryland.]

My early days in Brooklyn had me living right near the East River. Literally blocks from Vita, Domino Sugar and the Silvercup bakery. Some days smelled like bread, some like mollasses....and some like pickled herring or gefilthy fish....thats what my Polish grandmother called it. Anyway...great memories. JB Weld is another story...Although I haven't spoken to her in years, I know Mary Bonham who founded the company with her husband Sam...he passed in 1989 and I think Mary is 94 and still in Texas. We used to email back and forth....she had an interest in coins. I just repaired a valve for a rare old horn using jb weld. Best product on the planet for repairing metal.

I just discovered something kind of Handy. I use one of those glue bots that I'm sure we all own, I usually keep it topped up with tight Bond 2. I needed to use some of the other day but there was only a half inch of dried glue in the bottom of the glue bot. So I just used it right out of the large container and through the glue bot in the freezer so the glue could shrink and pop out. Well it didn't really go that way, I could not get the glue in the threads to let go. I was working on this on the patio in the Sun and left it after 45 minutes of messing with it. When I came back a few hours later, the glue was absolutely back to normal! I thought something must be different so I did a trial gluing a few pieces of scrap with fresh glue and some others with this reconstituted clue. I'm happy to report, they seem to be identical! So if you have old glue that has dried out, try tossing it in the freezer and then in the Sun. Worked perfectly for me

What a great collection of Black and Decker tools. It must be pretty rare to have that entire combo set. Then when you add the original packing ---wow. Speaking of packaging, I've noticed that old packaging is much more informative than new packaging. To me, information on packaging now takes a second position to the clean, uncluttered look. I saw Snoopy three times. Once during the lantern discussion, onceduring the BD discussion, and at the end when he was snooping over your right shoulder.

Another great video John. I certainly love that vintage power tools. Great design and nearly last forever if you treat them right. They have that battleship look and feel the same. That sander design completely eliminates any vibration from the drill “Handle”. I also love the boxes. It’s just got that appeal to me. Maybe it reminds me of a better time when manufacturing was something to be proud of. Best Regards, John

That's really interesting! I have an old Black & Decker 1/3 sheet finish sander but it's a standalone tool. I guess they must have reused some of the dies because the whole lower side of your accessory is identical to my sender. The only real difference is that the motor is placed lengthwise and it has a j shape handle that sits a little higher than the drill. I have not taken it apart, but I'm willing to bet that it is identical inside. Probably even the same motor as the drill, just mounted a thwart

I bought a cheap pole saw from HF for $20 and its blade won't track worth a damn. I'm not sure if it is something like the teeth set or if the blade is mounted wrongly on the end. Then yesterday I was using the rope handle and the guillotine mechanism lost a big bolt. I'll be lucky if I ever find it. Just now while looking for my grandpa's jigsaw I found a NOS Stanley Branded half inch solid brass hooks. So fun to find old things like that. Are they worth anything or do I open and use them? (you know I am leaning towards the latter.)

John, the scariest Black and Decker accessory that I remember dad using was the hedge trimmer.
