Yep...you are on track and I am right there with you. You do not need power tools at all. Keep it simple, touch the wood, feel it, look at it, enjoy the tactile experience and know that you have invested a part of your self into shaping the edges and ultimately influencing the voice of the drum. Beauty!

I did this to my Mapex Saturn kit. Dont have a stone so used the flattest thing i could find ...the bathroom vanity mirror. Was shocked to find both rack toms actually rocked, from 2, 180 degree opposed high spots. spray glued 120 grit sandpaper to the mirror and leveled them right out. Used some sandpaper and my hand to round over the new edge. the difference in the drum was night and day, sings beautifully now. and tunes up very very easy. I think this is a DIY that just about any drummer can do

Not sure if any one asked but wouldn't it be much easier if you dropped a light in the drum rather than using pencil led and or a nylon snare ribbon? ...ey?

If I can’t find a flat marble. What can I use.and the 14x22. Is a freakin cannon. I’ve never ever heard a bass drum like this. Ever. It’s unbelievable man. The punch and low end is ridiculous. I payed 275 for 13 16 22. I think because the 22 is best I ever heard. I figure I can get the 13 and 16 is worth it. Why not. Big size drum set for 275. Are you kidding me.

I got a 13x9 keller shell and no matter what I do it won't tune so I just ordered a new shell. I'm tired of fuckin with it and I cant find any flaws so it's going to become stock for re-rings.

What are you using to sand the drum? Looks like sheet rock? Did you glue sandpaper to it?

He mentioned a 60 or 80 grit sandpaper glued to a flat surface that he later says it's a slab of marble you can pick up at your local granite supplier.

STENCIL KIT PROBABLY COMES FROM THE KNOCK OFF THEORY

I never heard of 'The Knock Off Theory' either, but I assume you mean a kit that looks like a popular model, but made with cheaper materials and without permission. Basically any affordable instrument from the '70's.

Also, since I'm bending your ear, have you ever heard of 'Powersonic' drums? I got a kit made by them to experiment on, the wood is definitely yuan, but the hardware is beefy, looks like 80's Tama.

Blah blah blah Billy Ray it doesn't matter if the edges flat or not once you torque the head down it will close the gap buy some new heads see what happens I worked on drums for 25 years case in point I have a Triumph Japanese drum that has a knot on the bearing Edge and nowhere close of being flat on the machine surface don't want to cut a half inch off the drum to re drill the lugs (move them) I can tune the drum perfectly fine with both Edge's warped. Just a myth maybe rim to bent . Anytime you take an old head off, and put it back on it will sound different I can't tell you how many times are brought this Japanese drum out and showed it to people that were non-believers I love going to The NAMM shows then watch people hit drums looking for vibration residence look at the clear drums autobahns fiberglass drums north' drums,,,, Roto Tom's do you think any of those surfaces are flat hell no but maybe easier to tune and that's all all about the head

Prova ad accordare basso ... E poi ne riparliamo . La pelle non tocchera' ed il tamburo stona. Quello che dici e' vero ma bisogna alzare l' intonazione e cio' non e' indicato su un floor Tom.
