They load them indoors because they can ground the car, to protect from static electricity while filling and also because of a chance of lightning while filling outside. I remember that place very well as I had a lot of school mate's fathers that worked there and at the Pabst Grist mill which is gone now. Thanks again for some of the best Rail roading videos ever made!

I think that cars are simply grounded through the wheels to the rail whether inside or outside. Protection against lightning hitting a car is laughable at best. I helped unload flour from hundreds of cars with pneumatic outlets and never had so much as one hair lift in response to any static. We never used any extra grounding as none was required and flour is about as explosive a commodity as there is.

It’s sad to see a couple of F’s slowly disintegrating on a storage track, especially such a good-looking pair with a Southern graphic design using Northern Pacific colors. I’m going to dispense with the, “they should….” observation because I wouldn’t wish a task on someone else that I wasn’t prepared to do myself and saving an F from the torch would not be an easy or cheap proposition. A savior is needed with a lot of money and a lot of friends to make these work again. Replacing the engine with the thrown rod would be especially expensive but restoration/upgrading sure fires the imagination doesn’t it? An F-unit with a G engine and AC transmission would be so boss…..it would be the marvel of the railroading world (who needs the 4014?) and garner admiration from fans in the UK, Canada, Mexico and even Australia. And let’s have none of that tier-4 business on our boss locomotive either. Just a nice little 710G. Remember those cartoonish t-shirt graphics from the early 70’s of a Camaro with an outrageously massive engine, a turbo bigger than the engine block and a blower the size of a foghorn? Something along those lines I think…….

If ever there was a common substance that deserves the label, Handle With Care, it would be methanol. It is highly flammable and quick to react to even the most mundane ignition source. Methanol used to fuel both top fuel dragsters and fighter jets until the NHRA and the USAF determined it was too volatile for safe use.

It’s main customers are Purdue and Braswell family farms. Only two trains a day, Mon. thru Fri. One in the early morning from Springhope, and one in the evening, from Rocky Mount.
