Whne you think Intermatic, you immediately think "timer". But it's kind of sad to see, even these were ":built to a price" back in the day. I get the fact of the failing gears, these timer have lived well past their intended lifepsan, you're just looking to extend it. And in most cases, they can be fixed up and made to work again, as you have done. These days, I really prefer smart plugs. They provide all of the same features and functions, and can also be set up to run on sunrise/sunset cycles with automatic adjustment. The voice control is a very nice touch as well. I often ask for all the lights to be turned off when I head in to bed, and the whole house goes dark. That's convenient, and energy-saving. Of course, those smart plugs definitely don't look the part, like these do!

Yep, good until that pinion gear rots out again! I don't have the elaborate setup here, that you have. Certainly the way to go for what all you've got in service though! You've got that right about the look!

@@dynatrak What you DO have, though, is the wifi coverage to support such a network! I think there are 10 Echo devices around here, so they're always within earshot, so controlling stuff is easy. My best trick was the smart plug for the garbage disposal. No more operating 120 volt switches with 15-20 amps running through them with wet hands. Now THAT'S convenient. The only thing the smart plugs have going for them is the relay click, but nothing like the clunk of these timers. I wonder what uses more wattage, a timer motor or "vampire power" of a smart plug. I might have to experiment with that!

@@jaykay18 I could almost guarantee the vintage timer does. Seems like the motor is 3 watts, but only the Mary Tyler Moore is in use, I just heard it click off in the next room, and it sounds awesome. if I had like 200 smart plugs in use, I wonder if that would top three watts? I have a digical timer for the Twin Towers model, to compare "vampire power." Having one Gen-X, and one Silent Generation lives in the house, so a little tickle on the garbage disposal switch is no big deal. Actually, I was taught to always dry my hands before turning on that switch, so not to get shocked. I sometimes cringe when the Gen Alphas visit. They can barely operate the vintage Weiser door knobs from 1958, especially the bathroom door locks. Push in knob, and turn 90 degrees to the right. Hopefully they'll learn sometime!

@@dynatrak I decided to exercise my Gen X skills and Googlized that, it is so written that smart plugs can use a good watt or so, thereby being "more efficient". There are always costs in being efficient--Malaise era, anyone? That's a smart idea. Usually I'm still busy with the sink at that point, but I was always carefulling befoe the smart plug. I still think it's rather unlikely that you'll get lit up but you never do know. Wow, Bud made doorknobs? Har har! I'm a Schlage man, myself. Incidentally, all of the doorknobs I have are the lever style because they are the easiest to operate when hands are full. Decora switches, same thing.
