In this video I am restoring a very small iron from Sweden, it is a Husqvarna No 2 iron. I believe it's from the 1700/1800 century and was used by tailors. These types of irons were heated on top of a stove.
Overall it was in good shape but it was very rusty. I removed all of the rust using electrolysis. The cast iron was polished with a wire brush before being coated with cold bluing solution. I decided to sand the outside of the bracket holding the handle and give it a nice brushed look. The rest was kept original as I liked how it looked. The pitting on the cast iron was very beautiful so I decided to keep that as well. One of the screw heads broke off when disassembling so I decided to replace them. My friend had two almost identical screws that he found when remodeling his house. I cleaned them and used hydrochloric acid to remove the zinc plating as I wanted to cold-blue them. I sanded the old paint off the handle and painted it matte black.
I really like the resulting look where new meets old. Leave a comment and tell me what you think.
