You are at what was Moseley's Shady Lake Motel. Used to have a giant woman out front in a bikini holding a beach ball. Someone told me that it was sold to one of the local strip clubs. Rocky Mount is my hometown and boy could I tell you some stories about it! Lots of local folklore. Good video as usual Dan!

This vintage Motel was built to last, and still very nice into the 21st century!! Iam glad you showed us this place, really enjoyed seeing this one too!!!! I like to admire the attention to detail in buildings of our past too!!! They should be admired and enjoyed, Thanks Dan, for taking us to these places, that I would never see and enjoy!

Been watching episodes from season 1 ADR, then popped over to this and wow can appreciate how clean and well looked after this place really is when compared to rooms on ADR! The main door entering into the motel room is so clean, no marks or dents, the terracotta pathway is free of debris and dirt, no rubbish, bathroom clean and tidy, no marks on the walls, place may be a little outdated but can tell the owners look after this place with care. Id stay there!

As a kid in the '50s I stayed in many motels on multiple family trips, up and down the east coast of the USA, and I have to tell you, I don't remember any of them being like this...this was before the day of the franchised motels,( Holiday Inn, Ramada etc), so the motels we stayed in were mom and pop independently run places, and they usually had wood paneling on the wall and tile bathrooms, and frequently were in a U_shape with a swimming pool in the center area of the motel, this place really looked like a prison to me..

US 301 was the major North- South route in those parts when that motel was built. 301 was jam- packed with motels, some of which are still there, and a lot now gone. One of the most interesting ones was Cobb's motel in Benvenue. They had a bunch of antique cars on display in little pavilions out front.

I stayed there in 1961 when it was Mosely’s Shady Lake Motel. It was a beautiful place and had several two unit detached cabins also on the property. There were early bug lights along the lake that pulled bugs into a cloth bag with a fan. The restaurant was called the Rio Restaurant and had wonderful food! Great memories!

An unusual place but it appears to be very clean and well-maintained. When I was growing up in the 60's and 70's we stayed in Holiday Inns so that's what I'm accustomed to. Maybe the wall nook was for keeping the room keys when guests were in the room? Something else unusual is seeing Dan and Will in a place that is being used and that isn't derelict!

Been seeing all these recent videos and it's awesome to see you in my neck of the woods. Just going to say though be very careful checking out abandoned houses roadside here in NC as in recent years Meth has become a real problem and abandoned woods reclaimed properties are a favorite hideout for people with small cooking operations. Watch your ass out there I really don't want to see you popping up as a missing person story on the late night news.

Every time I see a motel tour, I think of the Winchesters in "Supernatural" seasons 1 through 6 before they found the "bat cave". In one of your earlier videos, you commented something like, "No one goes to motels anymore." I chuckled and said, "The Winchesters do." I wonder if you'll come across any as pictured in the television series. The exteriors all seem to really be the same as the 50's was the golden age for motels (much like all the malls are the same b/c they opened in the 70s). I know the show uses sets, but I would like to know where they got their inspiration for the design. As a die-hard Supernatural fan, I can say we fans do obsess over the different motel rooms and the very obvious and ubiquitous room divider. No matter where the Winchesters stay, that damn divider is always there, and since I've never had personal experience with a motel (my parents were Holiday Inn buffs...oooh, that'd be cool if you found an abandoned one, or a Howard Johnson), I'm just curious. Loving both of your channels. I did what you're doing back when I was in college. I lived in major city with a dead downtown and it was a lot like "The Crow" in its feel at night. Now, here I was a college girl alone and exploring abandoned buildings. Now, twenty years later, there's a word for it: Urban Exploration. Wow. I'm too old and too frail to do what I used to. My city was mafia heavy in the 20s and all us college kids knew the unused underground speakeasy tunnels that were used for smuggling hooch. Sadly, it's all renovated and the hipsters have moved in. Gone is the urban decay I loved, and likely the tunnels. In their place are bars, boutiques and...life. ::shudder:: I liked it better with the tall gray buildings and the gargoyles that we could never get good pictures of because our cameras sucked back then.
