The SS France/Norway was an absolutely beautiful ship and symbol of French design and architecture. I wish I could have sailed on her as the Norway. But I was born too late. By the time I was born, her boilers have already exploded and she was being sent to a scrap yard. Atleast if the Norway sank in the ocean, she would still be around for a while longer, but underneath the ocean.

My wife and I sailed the SS Norway on July 21, 2002 for our Honeymoon out of Miami. It was our 1st cruise and we had a great time except for having to tender at every port and the submarine excursion on St Thomas. The ship itself was fun although quite dated by that time but we were young and broke and didn't know any better. 😅

My family went on their first cruise on the Norway in 1998. Our cabin was upgraded by NCL at no extra charge, so we had a huge room with a Q bed and a pull-out sofa plus 2 chairs and a large coffee table. Our original room (much lower deck) had a round port hole. This one had a very large window with obstructive view (life boats) but our window was between two boats so no obstruction. The bathroom was small and ALL stainless steel...sink, tub with shower (yes there was a tub) and toilet. I loved the huge staircase leading down into the diningroom. The interior of the ship reminded me of the Titanic. My daughter loved it so much she took another cruise the following year on the Norway with her boyfriend...same cabin.

Wow, this was wonderful! I sailed this beautiful lady 5 times! Twice to the Western Caribbean and three times to the Eastern. I loved everything about this grand gal. I sure wish they build them like this today. Her lines were so elegant and because of her 34 foot draft it was always smooth sailing! I remember as a young kid, my parents sailed on the M/S Southward July 1982. They told of how big the ship was (16,000 tons 😂 practically a dinghy by today standard) , but when they returned to Miami, there was this beautiful, massive blue hulled queen docked just ahead of them which dwarfed theirs, SS Norway! They asked about availability for that afternoons sailing and there was vacancy. They almost bought a cabin on her, but realized that if they did, they’d miss my younger brother’s 2nd birthday so they decided against it. My mom always wanted to go back and sail on her, but it never happened. These stories sparked my interest in cruising and I took my first at age 19 on the 3 year old Carnival Sensation. I took several cruises with my mom in later years including a Mediterranean on Carnival Vista’s 2nd voyage. Thanks for the footage! Priceless.

Thanks for the memories. I sailed on the SS Norway back in '84. She was the largest cruise ship in the world at the time. An elegant lady that was the epitome of luxury at the time. An informal dinner was a 3 piece suit and a formal dinner was a tux. I still have a glass ashtray with SS Norway engraved on the bottom as well as letterheads and the complete itinerary. Today's cruises are a completely different experience. As I remember she was too big to enter any harbour we went to except Nassau. They had to lift off the 2 tenders she kept on her bow to ferry us in to port. Her arrival at any port was special. Miss those days. Sadly the only piece left of her is a piece of the bow section that was cut off and is on display in Paris.

Sailed her in May 1990. 35 years later we will be on the ICON (RCCL) which hold 3 times the passengers. Comments on the midnight buffets reminded me we would get up just to go see all the 'food artwork' they would do. And airfare was included and they would even pick you up at the airport. We even flew in the day of the sailing. Wouldn't try that now. Cruising has changed a lot, but that ship was fun to be on, and beautiful.

Hi coming from Cleveland Ohio! To see this old vintage ship was amazing! We are cruising crazy’s! Our first cruise was on Monarch of the Seas in 1996! Out of San Juan and it was deluxe back then! Late night buffets and just so classy, even back then! Today, just got back from the Regal Princess vow renewal cruise with Captain Stubbing and his tv daughter, Vicky ! You can view it on you tube, vow renewal Regal Princess February 2020!it was an amazing cruise, we were so happy to be part of it! ♥️! A true Love Boat cruise! Watch it, amazing! Then the virus hit and our fun cruise was just our history! We had to cancel the 2 cruises we had with Princess for October and over Christmas on the new Enchanted Princess! I really hope this contains itself, so we can cruise again soon, safely!😇🙏🏼😘! Thx for your video😍!

I just watched the vow renewal and that was awesome. Looked like a beautiful day you had. When I started sailing it was with RCCL, NCL and Carnival. My wife convinced me to switch to Princess and we love them also. In February I was on the Coral Princess for two weeks and we left Santiago Chile and went around the horn and up the other side ending in Buenos Aires....that was an amazing cruise. In May we were supposed to cruise the Nile in Egypt and then fly to Germany and do the Baltic Cruise. That went into the toilet. We are booked on Viking for a mid October Transatlantic from Lisbon and that is not going to happen either. Oh well. Back in 1996 I also did the Monarch out of San Juan to the Southern Caribbean and loved it. Hard to believe they just scrapped the Monarch. I did a couple videos of the Coral Princess and the Majestic Princess if you want to check them out on my channel. kzitem.info/news/bejne/rX-MsGtqkYxlbKg I subscribed to your channel and hopefully you return the favor!

My first cruise was on the Norway in February 1989. What an awesome experience! The ice sculptures during the midnight buffet were beautiful. Trap shooting off of the upper deck was a hoot. Jerry van Dyke (comedian) was performing in the theater. A passenger in the front row wasn't laughing. Jerry asked him why he wasn't laughing and said to him, "this is as good as it gets." But the highlight of the cruise was my buddy being escorted to the brig by two officers because they thought he was a stowaway. He got lots of free drinks out of that mistake. lol

We cruised her in 1984. The theme then was "Let Yourself Go". It was our first cruise and it was for our 10th wedding anniversary. We had a very small inside room that and a shower that only one person could get into. The pool games were outrageous and the disco was a blast. Thankfully back then they had no cameras placed around the ship. It gave couples great outside spaces to be private.

Was on the ship five times...toward the end they really let her go but was the end of an era....and at the time a really long ship which could not dock due to its length; the shows featured above average talent..was on with the 5th Dimension who danced in the disco with the passengers...beautiful art work...very small cabins and narrow hallways but the public rooms were Fantastic! Frustrating though as no staircases or elevators went from bottom to top..you had to get off and get on another one to get to the top!

My first cruise was on the Norway. Our cabin was all the way forward on one of the lower decks and yes we had bunk beds! The bathroom was the shower, so after showering everything was wet. We had a porthole, but we were so far forward that the curvature of the ship made it impossible to see out. 22 cruises later, I look back with fondness of my first cruise!

We sailed the Norway in 2001 right after 911. Tickets were cheap because of that. We ate in the pay dining room and the food was wonderful. At night in a huge main hall there were jazz singers. Waiters wearing white gloves served incredible delicious hourdevvores. A real class act. Our room was under the pool and was tiny. The lower decks smelled badly but we spent little time there As much as I enjoyed the cruise, I dislike being bothere by other guests who always wanted to chat. One island seemed pretty much like the one before. I decided this was all just a part of the cruise experience and never went on another one. Even so, I was very saddened when the ship was scrapped.

My wife and I sailed on the Norway in September 1981 for our honeymoon. It was our first cruise and we were very impressed. We had an inside cabin with a porthole to a walkway around the pool on the upper deck in mid ship. Couldn't see the ocean, but we saw daylight from the pool/walkway. If I recall correctly, the ship also had an indoor pool, probably for those earlier Atlantic crossings as the France. We only sailed to the private island and St. Thomas. I seem to recall that there was also a hurricane in the Caribbean when we were sailing, but the ship avoided it.

The Norway was the only ship I've ever cruised, with my family in 1989. (I worked a summer loading and unloading Alaskan cruise passengers, but the closest I got to the ship was the gangway.) I quite enjoyed my experience on her, even though I understood that her ocean-liner build was different than the behemoths Royal Caribbean and Carnival were releasing. I'd love to go on another Caribbean cruise someday on the modern vessels, or even on the Alaska ships I worked with but not on. BTW, according to IMDb, the Norway lives on in the Al Pacino movie "Serpico". At the end credits, Serpico sits at the New York harbor with his dog, and the camera pulls back to reveal the Norway/France docked behind them.

I also sailed in 1986. We flew in to Miami on a chartered plane. The pilot tipped his wings to show is all the ships lined up in Port. He said, look, you are all going on that monster in the middle!!! We all laughed at the tiny "boats". Phyllis Diller was our entertainer. A small group of us were in a corner of the lounge when he entourage asked us if we mind moving. Phyllis exclaimed NO! They paid to be here and bought us a round of drinks. She was also on our tender going to St. Thomss.. It was raining and the crew handed us all trash bags to wear. She laughed and shouted, look at me! Going to St. Thomas in a trash bag. That laugh of hers! I remember the International night where food from all different countries was set up and decorated. That was my first cruise.
