I had permission to ride & film these elevators.
These are some of the very last original/unmodernized relay-logic, motor-generator, high speed DC traction elevators in California! These elevators travel at 800 fpm! These elevators are actually a modernization/replacement of even older elevators.
These elevators are running on ORIGINAL controllers, and these elevators are VERY fun to ride, with fast acceleration, and VERY FAST deceleration! The fixtures (hall & car stations) have been replaced, with digital indicators in the car (possibly requiring an add-on board to interface with the relay logic controllers). The behavior of the lobby panel indicators confirms these are on original controllers, and likely mechanical selectors.
These elevators probably had Otis touch buttons originally. This could be why the fixtures were replaced (due to being non-ADA compliant, potentially being hazardous in a fire, and also potentially requiring a lot of maintenance).
These elevators do behave strangely. They seem to be in up-peak mode, but one car will have it's lantern lit, and if you get into a car where the lantern is NOT lit and press a floor button, it won't go anywhere! This could indiciate controller/dispatcher issues. I'm NOT aware of any modernization plans however.
The middle car has a different cab interior than the others (redone I believe), and has a disabled symbol next to it (I believe this car may have a floor passing chime). The right car only goes about halfway up the building, and travels at 500 fpm.
Speed: 800 fpm (500 fpm for right car)
