15 years ago I bought a late 70's GMT from a friend who owned a Pawn Shop . He had been a jeweler and watchmaker for years and had watches piled in a safe . One year at Christmas I wanted to buy a Rolex and he let me pick out of about 10 old watches he had in a box . I chose the GMT . It looked just like yours but it was scratched a little . $1000 and I had a GMT . The guys at work all laughed at it because it was old and faded . So me being an idiot I took it back ,he gave me my $1000 back and bought a Longine . I'd kill to have it back now that I know its significance. Learning the hard way is painful.

Nicely done video--informative and useful,--but one crucial piece of info for all vintage Rolex owners: never EVER send your vintage Rolex to Rolex for servicing! Rolex is notorious for replacing dials, hands, bezels, etc. and NOT returning the original parts to you. They are imperious: they decide if the part needs replacing and that's that. So if you loved the patina of that faded dial or the weathered character of that bezel you can just kiss it goodbye. Early 1675s have a 24-hour hand with a small triangular pointer at the end--wouldn't be surprised if Rolex would replace it with the later hand (i.e.the one on this model.) So beware! Find a reputable Rolex repair shop (such as IWW) and preserve your watch.

Just got my 16710 produced 1989 back from Rolex and they insisted the hands needed replacing they would not warranty the watch the hands though had just started to flake. The watch looks splendid, but now not original.... I can though read the time in the dark now. The actual face is fine and still remains luminous colour match of hands and dial markers fine.

So where do I get my GMT Master II serviced ? It needs a clean and lube so bad. “Coke” Purchased 2002 brand new, $3800, at Tourneau Corner, still have the original receipt, never serviced. Still have original box and all papers, all inserts, warranty slip, even the box for the box, and the green foam padding.

Did you send the GMT to Rolex Service? I want to send my 16613 Bluesy to Rolex but I'm scared they will change my creamy date wheel and faded bezel. How did Rolex service your GMT and not change anything on it? HELP
@superlativehour5914

Hello Thomas, thanks for commenting, you can ask Rolex not to replace your dial, hands, insert, date wheel, you can also ask them not to polish your watch if you prefer. In some cases they may insist on changing parts, if you’re not happy just refuse the service and send to a good independent watchmaker.

@@superlativehour5914 Thank you so much for your feedback. For some reason I always thought that if Rolex wanted to change any of their parts when you service the watch they would. Didn't know that you can tell them not to change things. I would love them to service my watch because its 20years+ old watch. I would also love to have the Rolex Serviced Card since I don't have the original papers for the watch as well. Thanks again, your GMT is amazing. I used to have a 1675 Mark 1 GMT from 1969 that was my fathers. It was stolen from my parents house 8 years ago. It was my graduation gift, never let the box at home because I was too scared to take it out. Just my luck, they stole it in the house :( Think about that watch every day.

Silverhallmarks Hello Sir, thanks for commenting, a couple of years ago a very good original condition watch only would have been circa £8-9k, for the same watch today you would be looking at circa £12-13k, condition and originality are very important, an average condition 1675 today would circa £8-9k, you can also find me on Instagram where I currently have the later quickset GMT 16750 for sale, please do contact me if you have any questions about all vintage Rolex watches. Nice review. I picked up a 1970 1675 on a 6251H jubilee in 2014 and the previous owner had a local jeweler replace the original tritium dial and hands with service ones that he sourced out himself. He was smart enough to retain the originals which I'm trying to decide who to send it to get it cleaned up and reinstalled. While I also don't like replacing the origial dial and hands, He said he replaced it because the tritium was smearing all over the dial and the paint was completely missing from the GMT hand which I could verify from the origial pictures.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I´m planning to buy a 1675 or 16750 (with the improved movement) from the 70´s and use the appropiate amount of money to get an unpolished one with original parts (without box & papers). Do you think 11.000 GBP is enough or do I have to spend more? These examples are expensive but the quality is amazing: www.exoticwatches.net/browse.asp?C=60&P=1

Hello Peter, I would buy the best, most original condition you can find at a fair price, 1675 or 16750, as far as unpolished goes personally I just look for a good thick even case, many people claim watches are unpolished which are not, if you look hard circa £10k is the right money for a really good one watch only.
