I really enjoy watching restoration videos of the old Star Wars figures they not only give the figures new life but also helps with preservation in some way and even though these figures are way before my time I really have a great liking to these figures because they set the standard for action figures for years to come and on top of that my dad gave me his personal collection from his childhood and I still have a few of them

nice, thanks; I think it's always worth reminding people that unfortunately the (awesome) effect of hydrogen peroxide only lasts about 2 years, after which the yellow comes back.
@geeklunchmeet

Thank you.😃 I find it varies wildly. I've got stuff that is still good years later. I think it depends possibly on how yellow it was to begin with and, of course, how you then store it afterwards.
@LMUstacker

@@geeklunchmeet oh, that's interesting, good to know. In my case, it was an AT-AT driver. Fairly yellow (possibly 30-50% less yellow than your R2D2), back to white, and then in about 2 years yellow again. Then I heard a similar experience from Toy Polloi, so I thought that was always the case. I guess the people who use peroxide, then store their toys in the dark, being collectors. Who knows if it depends on the plastic then.

@@LMUstacker yeah I think it's massively random. Just like how some figures never seem to yellow and others go like bananas 😆 Must be something in the different plastics.

It's the bromide in the plastic that causes the yellowing

Good job on the video. Does the hydrogen peroxide do anything to the paint on R2D2 legs

No it doesn't but I suspect it could if you left it in for a prolonged period. Thank you for watching 😀👍

R2 was my very first SW figure back in the 70s and loved him ever since. I've restored a couple over the years but the chrome dome is problem. My recent go i used a chrome pen but it wasn't great - any ideas?
@geeklunchmeet
Жыл бұрын
Yeah I've always loved the R2 figure too. I've never had one that needed the chrome touched up I'm afraid. I imagine any metallic paint is going to look a lot different to the actual metal plated finish. Maybe a gloss black undercoat and one of the Alclad paints airbrushed on top?

Can you use a glass for this or does it have to be air tight ?

I believe it should be airtight for it to work so I'd definitely use something with a lid. Freezer bags or something similar work well if you use the cream instead of the liquid.

Two questions, who is the navy blue Droid on the left at the end of the video, and anyone have a source for his and R2's scoping antenna? Reproduction 3d printed or real
@geeklunchmeet

The droid on the left is the power droid or "gonk" droid. I got his reproduction antenna on ebay. There's a bunch of R2 sensorscopes on there too. Thanks for watching 😀
