Ahhh. My favourite part of Fridays. Can't lie, milkybar will always hold a special place in my heart. Probably because in my (very) early youth one of my mother's colleagues used to call me "milkybar kid" (i had insanely fair hair and gold framed glasses so i can see his poibt)

I miss those proper chunky chocolate bars like Galaxy etc and with the foil wrapping you could slip through the outer wrapping, not quite the same now are they
@RetroSteveUK

Yes, this. I've always missed the foil wrappings. Particularly on Kit Kats - running your nail down between the choc fingers, splitting the foil as you go. Sounds a bit dodgy, reading that back! 😂

Well, the actress is Lysette Anthony in the days (from the look of it) when she was acting in Auf Wiedersehen Pet. That would put it around 1983-ish.

I can't believe they actually showed that poppadom commercial on TV. I do wish food from Indian was easier to get outside of a huge city in the US, though. I didn't know Riesen still existed. Are twiglets just flavored pretzels? One time a few years ago, I looked up what it would cost to buy and have the chocolate boxes like the Celebrations or the Roses and I about fainted. It was about 5 times or more just to get it shipped to the US than what it would cost if I were in the UK. I love chocolate, but one box is not worth nearly $100 unless it's maybe a gourmet brand.

In general I much prefer jingles to commercial, licensed music in ads, but that Riesen Chocolate Chew jingle is absolute garbage (yet annoyingly sticky, so I guess it does its job - I do still remember it all of these years later).

Tell me about it! I hated it back then and still do now - feels a bit too "white-middle-class". However, hearing it again still triggered nostalgia. Weird feeling, simultaneous nostalgia and revulsion, AND .. that bl**dy tune was stuck in my head for two days solid after editing it!! 😫

I at first thought that they were newer, too, but according to Wikipedia they launched in 1997, which is before Steve's usual cut-off of, I believe, around 2000 for his retro ad collections.
@RetroSteveUK
20 күн бұрын
The cut-off is fairly flexible. Normally it's anything that's 4:3 ratio (ie. not widescreen) but sometimes I'll include widescreen stuff if it feels nostalgic to me (age 50). Usually, anything after 2000 just feels too new.
