Violinist Paul Huang plays and talks about Eugène Ysaÿe‘s fierily dramatic Sonata No. 3 in D minor, “Ballade” for solo violin. Huang performs on the 1742 “Wieniawski” Guarneri del Gesù, which is named for the Polish composer and violinist Henryk Wieniawski (1835-1880). Wieniawski performed on many instruments during his career, including a few Stradivari, but is said to have favoured this 1742 del Gesù.
Recipient of the prestigious 2015 Avery Fisher Career Grant and the 2017 Lincoln Center Award for Emerging Artists, Huang is considered to be one of the most distinctive artists of his generation. The Washington Post proclaimed Huang as "an artist with the goods for a significant career" following his recital debut at the Kennedy Center. Don't miss his Singapore debut - in a showstopping programme of sonatas by Mendelssohn, Respighi, Saint-Saëns and this very one by Ysaÿe! Friday 23 June 2023, VCH. Tickets from SISTIC.
