Here is a taste of my Glossary of Brazilian Zouk Fundamentals for you.
It's pretty simple and straight to the point, and we have 13 of those along with an audio teaching how to say 'Viradinha' and a text with more information. Below, is some curiosities about this Fundamental Pattern:
"This one is fun to translate in English since it contains a linguistic tool common in Portuguese and Spanish but not in English.
Viradinha is translated to the ‘little turn around’. The ‘inha’ suffix indicates the small version of something, a diminutive, and 'virada' means 'the turn around', as a noun.
This is another fundamental we borrowed straight from Bolero and it’s also present in our other dances. In Bolero, for example, it’s common to learn a couple of variations of Viradinha in the first classes, having the follower AND the leader pivoting, and both pivoting to step backward or forwards. 🤩
Here, we do it in its basic form, without inclinations, big preparations, or torsions. It’s coming straight out of the Passo Básico and back into it.
Around the world, you can see Viradinha being taught in different ways:
• The follower keeping the track and the leader stepping to the side and coming back
• The leader keeping the track and opening the follower on the side and bringing them back
• Not much concern about the tracks, but focusing on the opening and the closing
Viradinha is one of the most versatile steps and you can create so much with it.❤️
