I too grew up in the 70s. In addition to the cars that you mentioned brown also reminds me of corduroy husky pants from Sears and dark pine paneling.

Prior to starting manufacture of gold nibs in 2020, Visconti used Bock nibs made to their specification/decoration, with an occasional JoWo creeping in. Schmidt don't make nibs at all - they purchase Bock or JoWo nibs, again to their specification, and assemble them with their own feeds and sell these on to the manufacturers. Probably it is the final quality control that makes the difference - something that has been hit-and-miss traditionally with Visconti.

They (Schmidt) do seem to do a good job tuning with the nibs I've gotten, and those are all over the price map.

Gorgeous, gorgeous brown… Love brown pen as well. Such class. A great ink pairing, also, is Montblanc Toffee Brown, if you are lucky to find a bottle… great brown, 😊

There is definitely something special about a beautifully made brown fountain pen with a classic sepia toned ink. For me it brings visions of the old quill & ink well pages, almost like feeling a link with history.

I have one of the brown Visconti's. I don't post, so I don't care that in other reviews the posting is "iffy". I like the brown color and its swirls, the hefty barrel band, and the brushed, non-slippery metal section and the way it is decorated. Mine occasionally hard-starts; I'm using Diamine Prussian Blue ink in it. I got the pen from Goulet, $170.

That's a handsome pen. If I weren't so nutty for paying off bills, I'd rush out and get one now. I might anyway if not for iron will and my warrior discipline. I wonder how soon they could ship?

Iron will and warrior discipline and paying off bills all sound like superpowers to admire in a man. My superpower is impulse shopping. I’ve got this pen in my cart and my idea of discipline is holding off while I watch reviews of it to talk myself into it even more.

Hi James! I appreciate the review on this pen. I am looking for a wonderful brown pen and you put this pen in the running. HOWEVER, my question is, what is that gorgeous multi-shaded blue pen that Mr. Blue Crab is holding in the background? It kept catching my eye throughout this whole video!

🤣🤣🤣 The brown color reminds me of my dad's Pontiac Catalina. Everyday I had to uncover the beast of a vehicle and dust it off before I could play with my friends then cover it up again. That would be considered child abuse now at 11 years old. 🤣 But in the 60's that was normal and we played outside in the streets and woods until the street lights came on. So I have fond memories of that color brown also. I would keep the pen 🖋️ and write with it unposted. Why frustrate yourself on purpose.🤣 God bless, Leo

Great review. Beautiful pen, magnetic cap, and a Visconti that is at a somewhat reachable price for me. It's on my wish list. I think the brown is my favorite colorway for this model too, looks great. I don't think you mentioned the price you paid, or maybe I missed it. MSRP looks to be $159, which is definitely much more than I usually spend on a pen, but this is a low price for a Visconti :)

I like brown pens. I don't know why people are adverse to the color. I had a Visconti with a steel nib. It was horrible. I am hoping using a Schmidt nib will be better. It seems so. Maybe I will reconsider getting the Mirage. Great review, James.

I have several of the old Mirage pens and purchased one of the Mythos with high hopes for this pen. Overall it's a step up, however if I knew the posting was as loose and poorly magnetized as it is it might have been a deal breaker. It bothers me significantly more perhaps because I'm used to the friction fit on the standard Mirage. The nib (I have a broad) is fantastic though. I feel Visconti really missed the boat as far as posting this pen. I would prefer it not post at all then I wouldn't keep trying to post it ending in disappointment.

@@JG3Reviews too me, a pen like this with a quick release magnetic cap should be conducive to quick writing and the ability to secure (post) the cap. I can't use this pen in 'the field' for fear I move my are the wrong way and the cap flies of (and it has even at home)

I have an earlier Mirage and agree on them being rather nice. I wouldn’t get one of these, though, despite being a bit of a Classics nerd, due to the grip section; metal grips don’t agree with my fingers, writing becomes painful faster, and it’s rather too high priced to take a gamble on.

It is, but but they aren't that far apart in price. This, the Breeze, the Rembrandt, and the Van Gogh are all pretty tightly packed into the same market, it seems to me. This would be my preference of these.
