Nahh man, commentary isn't for Magnus, I remember in the 2020-21 candidates , he was commentating in round 8, when fabi won that endgame against MVL, I went to sleep midway, and it was 4pm local time for me😂

Yeah. It was nice how he completely avoided the Magnus question. It's Ian's and Ding's championship now. No point covering it with Magnus shadow everytime. These guys are #2 and #3 ranked players. They deserve the attention and glory. Even Magnus would have agreed.

@@StarryNightGazing Personally im not sure who would win that one now. eventhough Kasparov has officially been retired for 2 decades, i know he's still been playing chess and he's still a strong player. Anand is one of the greatest natural talents of the game, while Kasparov was known for lethal opening prep and amazing calculating skills which was always an interesting clash, and i think it still would be.

You have no idea how great a player nepo is if that 6th match of the last championship had another result it could have been magnus playing the candidates...but as nepo couldn't deal with the anxiety he lost ..this time he has none so I am hoping for a convincing win .... having said that ding is a great player and if he some how finds his mojo back than its going to be interesting

@@harshalbhanarkar I think for Ding you qualify for the candidates he had to have played a specific number classical games in the last year. So the Chinese chess association created tournaments and matches specifically for ding (where he faced mostly 2500s) to get him into the candidates.

And Hikaru only entered the Candidates cycle because FIDE allowed him to play the Grand Prix without having qualified for the same reason, he hadn't played the required number of official games. Radjabov was nominated in 2022 because they were trying to fix their screw up from the 2020 Candidates. Alekseenko was nominated in 2020 without any particular merit. For FIDE's standards, Ding's admission was more than fair.

@@asylum9868 they have to play a certain amount of games otherwise they will be moved to inactive category. Vishy plays enough to stay 9th in the active category, so it doesn't make a difference as long as he plays that required amount of games.

i wonder how much of a boost could Liren's win actually give to the popularity of "classical" chess in China? i know there's the precedent of Anand, but i'm not sure if it would work to the same extent - note that India has generally been much more influenced by Western culture to begin with (obviously due to having been part of the British empire). and China already has their own chess (i keep forgetting the name), which is immensely popular there (not to mention tbey also play Go). i wouldn't be surprised that even if Liren won, the popularity of chess wouldn't exactly soar in his homeland. although it would have SOME effect for sure.

I think playing chess at that level is very exhausting on mind and when someone has already won the championship multiple times I don't think there is enough motivation to leave your normal life and go through this hectic process all over again.

the Moment ding, get's out of nepo's opening preparation, i think ding is the better player. the only two ways that i can see nepo win are if 1. ding falls for nepo's opening preparation or 2. ding loses because of nerves( after all nepo has much more experience than Ding). either way, this match doesnt determin the best player of the word. this match determines the second best player of the world

@@rajessss Not sure but I think , they have to change the federation to play or something in most tournaments . Probably not most top players but most other Russian players are finding it difficult now to play under russian federation so they are switching.
