I contacted Vision and they said they have no manual and that I have to let it service by a bike shop. Then I saw this video of thin gentleman. Thank you very much

Hi, I can confirm this is a ball ache to service as my other wheels are easier to strip down (dont need 12mm hex - which I eventually bought). The hub failed occasionally snagging the drivetrain so sent it back as it was still under warranty. I had to put the new one on about two weeks later as this is how long the shipping, testing, dispatching took which was enough time for me to forget most of the process. Thank you David this video helped me reassemble. One thing I noticed is on my wheel there were two ultra thin washer like rings that sat between the hub and the cartridge bearing on the drive side. I only put one back in as the other was warped/distorted and didnt sit flush as it should. Next job is to re-true the wheel as it is not perfect enough when spinning has a slight wobble to it (unless its hard to get this on mass produced wheels?).

Gareth Woodall, thanks for the message. I did find them a pain to strip down that’s why I thought I’d do the video (not the best I know but got the basics across I think).

But is there any chance of maintainig the teeth in the freehub? I mean the whole mechanic in the inside of the free hub Edit: For those stumbling upon this comment: If you have bought your wheelset in the last 2 years, there is a good chance that you can maintain the teeth of the freehub. I opened mine up and found that the freehub shown in the video is an older gen.. I can de- and regrease the teeth of my freehub on the same wheelset, which probably makes it last longer. Mine are running for 7000 km now and i found by rotating, that my bearings aren't quite smooth as they were before. I am thinking of changing those at some point.

One question, is the bearings in the freehub(the silver one) replaceable? I watched the video on the channel Free To Cycle doing this job and in this video it as a ring holding the back bearing, while mine doesn´t, it doesn´t have any space between bearing/spacer/bearing... I don´t even know if is replaceable, I already tried to get both out together with a extractor laying in the back bearing by the pulleys side, but didn´t worked...

@@joaobrito1801 I don't know. Didn't change them yet. But i know for a fact that if you change all of the bearings of the complete wheelset it is going to be 6 in total. Two fpr the front wheel, two for the rear wheel and two for the hub. So i am pretty sure that you can change those

@@fj4723 I already took the freehub bearings off, they were too tight and the spacer between them wasn't moving sideways... yes 6 bearing, I only service the rear wheel and it's 3 (17287) and 1(6903) if I'm right...

Thanks for very helpful video. My freehub failed after 2,000 miles. It had massive play in it and the outer body just came apart on disassembly. The remains of the body was a pain to remove even with a long 12mm allen key and big spanner (really tight). Also had trouble removing drive side bearing as this was still in detached part of freehub. I have now ordered a new freehub. I'm thinking this should still be under warranty as the bikes only 9 months old.

Hi, Looking at the clip, I have the same wheel from Ribble 872 bought 2017. I recently noticed that my freehub needs replacement. The number on the freehub body on the clip matches mine as well. I have enquired few online bike shops but couldn’t give me the right part. Is it possible if you could send me the details of the freehub and bearings please. Much appreciated.

Hi, Did you service the freehub or replace it Also, How did you remove the retaining nut holding the freehub, it dosnt have any mean to hold it
@daviddoherty5979
6 жыл бұрын
Phil, the freehub nut can be unscrewed by keeping the 12mm Allen key in the centre and hold it in a vice then requires a special nit removal tool which you can make like in this linked video. kzitem.info/news/bejne/kqd40WmmnoJ4hZw Be careful as it is very tight. I also noticed that you can see the ball bearings from the wheel hub threaded side of the freehub (hope that makes sense) once you remove the seal so you may be able to degrease and regrease without taking it fully apart. Or just put a new one on. Hope that helps. David

Fragile. Read onther posts to get a sense of the issues. I have one I am fixing for a mate, LHS end cap is seized on, as it the freehub. full of grit. Not overly impressed. THIS IS AN AWESOME VIDEO, I would never have reasoned that the freehub is a threaded and the internal bearings are balls.

Try using a plastic mallet and gently tap your wrench on the Allen key. Might need a bit more than a tap to be honest. Good luck.
