Bataan People's Center & Bataan Provincial Capitol Grounds
6 November 2009
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo honored the 2009 Go Negosyo Most Inspiring Entrepreneurs and Microentrepreneurs of Bataan in an awarding ceremony held on the occasion of Go Negosyo's Caravan in Bataan province.
In brief remarks, the President lauded the Bataan Chamber of Commerce and Industry for its growth and expansion throughout the years which created more jobs and opportunities for entrepreneurs to start their own businesses in the province.
She also encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs and Go Negosyo founder Joey Concepcion III to support businesses that would help preserve the environment and address climate change.
Go Negosyo is the advocacy of the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship (PCE), a non-stock, non-profit organization that advocates for a change in mindset and attitude. PCE believes that the Filipinos can address poverty in the country by engaging in entrepreneurship and popularize it as an alternative to unemployment, job-seeking or migration.
From the Go Negosyo Caravan, President Arroyo proceeded to the Bataan Capitol Grounds for the "Common Tao Day" which she celebrates in her provincial activities every Friday.
More than 1,500 residents were given free medical and dental treatment, as well as free reading glasses, by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) which has been tasked to organize the mission.
The President handed over wheelchairs to two beneficiaries -- five-year old Charles Angelo Guevarra who is suffering from cerebral palsy and 86-year old Felicidad Nacor who was left paralyzed by a stroke since last year.
President Arroyo also distributed 25 sets of nebulizers and 125 sets of rechargeable flashlights to barangay captains of Balanga, and gave financial assistance to shoulder the unpaid hospital bills of four indigent patients.
The President celebrates the "Common Tao Day" every Fridays to continue the tradition started by her father, the late President Diosdado Macapagal, who scheduled a "Day for Common Man" during his term to allow direct interaction between the President and ordinary citizens. (NFB/RJU)
