Despite how close it is, I haven't been to Northport in years. Oh, passed through a couple years ago, on the way to the beach at Asharoken, but haven't walked through in ages. (Friends recently bought a house in Asharoken, and I haven't been there, either.) Used to go to Skippers from time to time, then around the corner to the Copenhagen bakery to bring some goodies home. (Now, that would make some great video eye candy!) I remember seeing that show, when the diner was overhauled; had mixed feelings about it, because I appreciated the vintage look. Really enjoyed your visit, Grandma, Grandpa, and LF!

Hi Folks! So glad to see this video as I enjoy when you go out and about to eat. Love that harbor and the town with so many great little shops. It reminds me of what is the “tourist trap” called the sponge docks in Tarpon Springs Florida. It’s about 30 minutes from where I live. It’s all Greek and the restaurants and bakeries are absolutely delicious. I love to go there just for the day to get away and have a Greek salad and stop by the bakery and bring back sweet rolls to dunk in my coffee. My favorite ice cream is pistachio, but it’s hard to find it . I also like chocolate mint like grandpa.. I believe people were much slenderer back then, because as you indicated, the portion sizes were smaller then today and people walked all the time. I really appreciate those types of shops and restaurants that try to keep it as it was, so much to learn and great character. We have a candy store on treasure Island south of Clearwater that is kept it the same with all the candies you would’ve ate or had back in the 40s 50s and 60s and ice cream. You can write your name on the wall and they never take it off. Mine is still there from 20 years ago. I think that’s really neat that they do that. Thanks as always for posting and you both be well ….God Bless! …..Brian

Hi Brian we are glad you enjoy when we go out and about to eat. The weather has not been that nice lately. Today is raining so we are staying home. Grandpa and I have been to Tarpon Springs years ago. I enjoyed the shops and the Greek food. I still have a few small items that I purchased that day. I don’t have them anymore but I bought a few of the sea sponges. I also like pistachios ice cream and it took me awhile to choose between the peach or pistachio. Yes most people were thin years ago and as you can see it was the portion sizes that were much smaller. The fast food restaurants are getting ridiculous with the supersize items. Not good for anyone. We hope you are having nice day. Take Care! ❤️Grandma👩🏻& Grandpa👨🍳

Thanks so much for sharing your adventure with us. The portions all of you received seemed to be large. I am curious as to what the main difference between a malt and a milkshake is? I'm reminded of the "Malted Milk" chocolate bar that we once had in Canada but cannot seem to be found anymore.
@GrandmaFeral
Жыл бұрын
The portions were a nice size. Not too small and not too big. They might have seemed large because the plates were small. A malt includes malted milk powder which is made from malted barley, wheat flour, and evaporated milk. It is thought to add more nutrition to a beverage. A milkshake is made from milk, ice cream, and syrup.

Hello Grandma and Grandpa! People were healthier back then because there portions of food were normal healthy sizes not the gluttony of todays times.That is why so many people today are overweight and unhealthy there eating two or three peoples portions at each meal. People eat enough in one meal for the whole day or maybe even 2 days worth of calories. Have a great afternoon.

Not to mention also that more people worked physically strenuous jobs (farming, fishing, clamming, construction), walked rather than rode, and didn't sit around with their nose buried in technology all day and night. People rose and set along with the sun, and didn't stay up all night in artificial lighting. There were no fast food places or sandwich shops or delis or chain food outlets on every corner. Potato chips, popcorn, and pretzels existed (and maybe Fritos and Cheese Doodles since the '60s), but they were a rare treat, not something pushed with every lunch, along with that giant sugary soda no one needs. People (especially young people, who don't have the perspective of a lifetime) would do well to keep this in mind, and eat accordingly.
