I was introduced to the music of Johnny Clegg by a nice South African lady in London.
Ever since I played "Scatterlings of Africa" I have wanted to learn more about this man, study his music and attempt his Zulu dance moves in my kitchen.
Johnny Clegg was born in Bacup in 1953 to a Jewish-Rhodesian Mother and an English-Scottish father. His parents split as an infant and by age 6 he was living in Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe).
Johnny Clegg never lived in England again. He came back many times for concerts and was even awarded an OBE by the Queen for music services.
In honour of Johnny Clegg memory, I went up to Bacup on 2nd August 2021 to have a look around town. Many of the locals were amazed at how far I had travelled from London just for the sake of standing in front of the Bacup sign.
