Whenever we think about what to do in Punta del Este, first thing that comes to mind is beaches and luxury. Although that is true, Punta del Este is surrounded by amazing places that provide different options in order to enjoy a relaxed, stylish, day in Nature.
Jose Ignacio is a former fishermen town that became the most exclusive beach town in Uruguay. It is located on a small peninsula and is home to boutiques, fancy designer stores, a calm beach, a wavy beach, and lots of restaurants, bars and cafés for every taste. It is known for being the place chosen by celebrities from all over the world as a relax destination. Jose Ignacio is just 33km from Punta del Este and it is a great place where to spend an evening without spending lots of money (unless you want to!). That is what we did during #PuntaBlogTrip2020, getting to know a bit about this exclusive destination.
Jose Ignacio is located between two lagoons: Laguna de Jose Ignacio and Laguna Garzon. We visited the last one and we met Laura Moñino at her kite and windsurf school by the lagoon. The lagoon is a unique natural place with specific geography and weather conditions that make it the perfect place in which to practice those sports in South America. Also, eco-tourism activities such us bird-watching, camping, glamping and more can be practised at Laguna Garzon.
Special thanks to Cari Fossati and Ro Freda for putting together this blog trip, and to Laura Moñino, the City of Punta del Este, the government of Maldonado, and the Ministry of Tourism for their support!
