Remember going there as a young child back in the 60s with my grandparents. 😊

I've seen photos of Southdale from the 1950s. However, I had no idea that this mall was still operational, especially in this era of mass mall closures. I hope it keeps thriving. Thanks for sharing!

I had always thought the 1st Mall was the Bergen Town Center in Paramus NJ which opened in 1957. I had read that for.many years. But upon my quick research I see a Wikipedia entry that it's actually the 2nd oldest Mall in NJ. Now I'm wondering which other NJ Mall is oldest? Because I've seen programs on the History Channel state the (then) Bergen Mall was America's 1st ever Mall. I loved the video. Your combined narration makes it so much more personal and enjoyable to watch. Thank you for putting the time in to make it.

The first indoor mall in the southern hemisphere also started construction the same year Southdale opened and it opened in 1960 and is still to this day the largest mall in the southern hemisphere! It’s pretty much Chadstone in the suburbs of Melbourne Australia! :)

Northgate is listed as the first regional shopping center, but Southdale is still listed as the first mall. Google it. I am impressed, by the way of Seattle’s mall. They are going to give it an update, so it is still thriving! Way to go!❤

Sorry. That mall was built 2 years AFTER this one, and that one was demolished and rebuilt. This one is original. 😁
