Visiting the Magnificent Grand Mosque of Demak - Evidence of the Entry of Islam to the Archipelago
The Great Mosque of Demak is a mosque built by Raden Patah from the Kingdom of Demak with the help of Wali Songo. This mosque is on the list of the oldest mosques in Indonesia, because it was built during the early days of the spread of Islam in the archipelago.
The Great Mosque of Demak was founded following the founding of the Demak Kingdom after Majapahit began to collapse. Raden Patah was the son of Prabu Brawijaya from Majapahit with a concubine wife. The process of establishing the Great Mosque of Demak was assisted by the Wali Songo, namely Sunan Gresik, Sunan Ampel, Sunan Bonang, Sunan Drajat, Sunan Kudus, Sunan Giri, Sunan Kalijaga, Sunan Muria, and Sunan Gunung Jati.
The Great Mosque of Demak was built using Soko Guru slat poles, namely shards of wood arranged and tied into poles. In the Demak Grand Mosque complex there is also the Demak Grand Mosque Museum and the tomb of Raden Patah, the First King of Demak. Not far from there, there is also the tomb of Sunan Kalijaga which is visited by many pilgrims every day.
Raden Patah, the First King of Demak, bequeathed Pati Unus, Sultan Trenggono, and Sunan Prawoto, who bequeathed Queen Kalinyamat in Jepara. There is also Arya Penangsang who is a descendant of Raden Patah.
