I enjoy watching these American Ren Fair videos. I sometimes attend historic re-enactments here in the UK, but they are very different. We don't have any of the "audience participation" here. Everything is purely an exhibition. We also don't get the period-themed food. Ours are more like open-air museums than activities in which you can participate. I think I would like to try some of these "hands on" experiences that you get in the States. They look like fun.

Get there at 8:30am. VIP parking is worth it. There is always a line starting around 9am. You are paying $12 for the park entry and the ren faire does not profit off of it. Also if you come early there’s no lines. There’s just a mid day rush and it’s easy to avoid. I usually go to the car around this time to eat a packed lunch and have some refreshments in the car.

Just take your time and prep to stay all day because end of day there’s far less people. Early joust is my favorite . Best day I went it was gloomy out so it wasn’t too hot or crowded. Also Sundays are less busy too

Sorry you didn't want to play a game at Kid's Kingdom. I'm the games Master and I have fun teaching games to all. When the faire sponsored Autism, I had several kids who seek me out to play. My payment is a child and parent playing and not touching the phone. I also invented the doll technique as well.

This is my home Faire! I've been going since I was a kid and it was located in Devore, and then made the move with it to Irwindale in '05. And I've been working it the last 4 seasons. I'd say, to avoid a lot of the parking issues, get there early, before gates open. The Faire opes at 10, so getting there around 9 is always a good idea, you avoid the majority of the traffic, and have plenty of time to get in your garb and get yourself situated for the day. The food lines get crazy. I've worked in the food court the last three seasons, and those lines get so crazy. Getting food either earlier In the day or later is always the safest bet. Those lines start around 11:30 and don't usually quit until around 3 or 4, depending on the booth. I cannot help but recommend the Poke booth. Not only because I've been working for them the last two years (they first came to Faire in '23) but because the food is the absolute best. Yeah, a lot of people are distrustful of raw fish at a place like a Ren Faire, but honestly, it's the best, hands down. It's a little price, but it's really worth the money it's cool and refreshing on those hot days, while also being filling and super delicious. They do tuna and tofu. The best thing about the Irwindale Faire is that there is so much to do and to look at the shows are always great, and the people working are always super nice. It can be a little more on the expensive side, but it is California, so it's to be expected. If you've never been and are in the area around April or May, you should definitely think about checking the Faire out. It's like nothing else in LA.

We've been going to the Renaissance Faire in SoCal since 1975, in Agoura. Then Devore, & then Irwindale. We've gone thru many different costumes. The first Saturday is always the best day to go. Not too crowded. I'm enjoying watching you go to the different faires, with all of the different takes on the whole faire. Thanks for sharing.

Nice video tour of the various offerings at Southern Faire. A very big Thank You for taking the time to show and talk to, the re-enactors. Most of the videos completely skip over these folks. We are very happy and eager to interact with our patrons. I hope you return next year and are able to spend more time with the group who inhabit the village just inside the front gate. I will impart some unsolicited for you to take or leave as you will. Arrive early (the lines to get into Faire when it was in Agoura where just as long). Wear a hat, wear sunscreen (it is Southern California after all), bring some water, wear comfortable shoes. A special Thank You for getting the history of the Faire right. Anon.

Enjoyed your coverage of the Renaissance Pleasure Fare! Love the historical re-enactments, the guildes, and the interactive crafts & activities. But I couldn't deal with the crowds, the lines or the prices( like almost double across the board plus $12 for parking ... YIKES!). I've attended 9 different faires over the years but all in the South-East. I'd like to make it to TX some day ... but I guess I'll have to skip the Irwindale RPF.

I love the ren faire in Irwindale, but yes it is pricy and can get crowded. I like going on the themed weekends like Pirate, and there's one for Pride. There's a smaller one in Eastvale called Koroneburg. Not as many people.

I’d love to see a comparison video about what you liked best about various fairs you went to. I live in CA so I’ve only been to irwindale and koroneberg but I’m curious if it’s worth the cost to travel to tx or Maryland or Colorado. At irwindale, We make fairy houses every year it’s so much fun. We love moonie! We always do bungee jumping and zip lines and the dragon swing is really fun after a beer. There’s a lot of good shows. I also think the faeries are wonderful. You can find them wandering around and they are beautiful. I wish there was more water fountains. We always pack water but I feel like we always end up buying extremely overpriced water anyway. We try to eat early or later to avoid lines.

Do you have plans to visit the Northern California Renaissance Faire? It’s located in Hollister, Ca and runs every Sat & Sun from Sept 14th to Oct 20th. It’s similar to Irwindale, but has a more intimate setting.

This was a fun video to come upon. I am a NY Rennaisance Fair Vet. Used to have a booth then performed with my Harp music. I loved it, my year was built around it. This video sent me down memory lane. Thank you. I look forward to seeing your other Renn. Faire videos. Do you do any videos focusing more on the Music? Thanks for this one.

This was the first Ren Faire I ever attended, when I was 18, and it opened me up to a whole new world. It was back when the internet was still young and before social media so I had no idea that enough other people liked the same nerdy things as me until I visited. It also kind of ruined me for other fairs because the few I have been to since have been so elaborate (though I know other good ones ar out there)

So the $12 fee is the dam fee, its a nature reserve type place so the kiosk you pass at the top of the dam is normally where you would pay that. (this has been my fair since i was 8 and it was in another place called devore before its current place). as for the prices, yeah this is one of the most expensive years.

You're paying a parking fee for the Los Angeles County Park, not the Faire. All of that landscaping, all of that protected wildlife, all of the lifeguards at the lake, all of that paved parking - that's the County Park, and it's got to be paid for somehow.
